guitar 2020-08-02

I had a lot of ideas this week but didn't execute on any of them. Summer saps my energy. So I hope you enjoy this guitar noodling at least a little bit. I think there's a song in here somewhere, but I couldn't be arsed to find it.

I was talking to my brother this week about the nonsense I've uploaded recently, and he said it's more than he's done in the last year. So even if we upload dumb stuff, at least we're doing something. That's a good enough rationalization for me, I guess.

Sometimes you just gotta hit record and see what happens, and sort it all out later. I enjoyed listening to this noodling, it's something I do on guitar all the time.

A while back I was talking with a friend about creativity, and we were comparing the creative process to the digestive process. If you focus on just the output of digestion, it appears that the purpose of digestion is to simply create piles of shit. But of course the actual purpose is to provide energy and nutrients so we can live and flourish. So...even if we are just shitting out tracks and it doesn't feel productive, there is still meaning/purpose in the process

Thank you so much for the kind words. My guitar experience is kinda funny - I used to play in high school and set it down for many years. It was a combination of quarantine and, oddly, "Seeds of the Crown" from the Hyper Light Drifter soundtrack (yes, the video game) that made me pick it back up. At this point I don't really have any "heroes", so I've been kind of directionless, but somehow this kind of noodling is just super satisfying to me. Plucking shapes out of the air, off the fretboard.

That is a perfect metaphor. This year, I've uploaded a lot of stuff (shit) to WeeklyBeats that I don't think is very good at all, but I've made it further than I have the previous 2 years I particpated, and somehow that feels very satisfying, it feels like a real achievement. Even if all I get out of it is this internalized idea that I have to... make... something - even if it's just the proverbial sonic bowel movement, that habit is such a healthy, cathartic thing.

oh this is great - weeklybeats: don't think, just do.

if you've ever listened to a band/artist's b-sides and thought: "why wasn't this on the main album?" you'll know that artists aren't always the best judge of their own work.

but also, why even bother judging work?

oh man I really want to play HLD, that's been on my to-do list for ages...

I love the final chords.  It's definitely that ".....yep, I'm done!"

Thank you for the kind words smile I agree! Why not just throw it out there and see what happens... Oh yeah, haha, whenever I play or practice guitar I always feel the need to resolve it, even if I'm not recording. Gotta stick that toothpick in the sammich big_smile

HLD is gorgeous. I don't know that it has a ton of replay value, but there's so much attention to detail in every little thing. I don't usually purchase video game soundtracks, but that one I picked up with no hesitation. It stands on its own.

Some tasty noodles though.

Thank you very much smile

Maybe it's because it's solo guitar but it felt like it could fit as an intro in a new Western movie ala Ennio Morricone. Great thing about WB is you may come back to this track later and be like "woah this would be great as an interlude" or "oh wait i have another idea!".  I'd like to order another bowl of noodles please smile

your accoustic sounds amazing. Nice playing too.

Thank you : ) I love the idea of it being from a Western. Somehow that never occurred to me.

Nice noodles, I feel I could be out in the high dessert, contemplating the next thing, and the critters beyond the fire light.
