Yeah, another shitty submission. At least I haven't broken the chain yet. 27 down.

This is based on an idea that I've wanted to do for a while, but my execution was pretty poor. Sorry if you hate it, but expect to hear more of this kind of nonsense in the future, albeit hopefully a bit more polished.

The drone is a softcut-based norns app, basically from scratch. There are 6 harmonically tuned voices that randomly slew their panning, sample start position, and sample read rate (loop length adjusted for static period).

The idea is solid and it sound tight from the outside.

what would you do differently?

Thank you!

Well I would have processed the drums a bit more to separate them out. Plan out some patterns to really give it that feeling of flying I wanted it to have. I think the drums could have used 1-3 more voices too, maybe one with aome sparkle and one more organic sounding. Also the drone could use a bit of reverb or delay, probably not full blast but juat some dub-style accents. Also I think it needs an arp or lead for a bit of rhythm and for some more texture.

Yes, Week 27 is a challenge to be sure! The sounds here are really evocative with the panning grind of filters sounding like ripping metal in slow motion. The slow pans are really hypnotic and the filter textures are deep.  I like all the experimentation and enjoy listening as it evolves.  Love the slow down ending.  Sounds like an alien invasion!

Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm glad this idea worked for you, maybe it is worth pursuing a bit more after all. I can definitely dig ripping metal and alien invasion smile

Dense buzzing drone is cool, this does get hypnotic.

Thanks man smile I think this needed some reverb or something though. Oh well, might have to do another droney thing at some point.

Yeahhh most of the time I feel like I'm just keeping that chain going. Thats a good thing in itself though. Good things often still come of that, and thats definitely the case here! The drone is super ear-tickling, and the dry-ness is actually kinda nice in that regard. Considering the fairly dry/simple elements, that kinda chaotic descent towards the end feels so full and like its pulling you down somehow. Really nice.

Thank you for the kind words about the track smile I have been meaning to do more to create contrast, and I appreciate you pointing out where I have done so by accident!

I completely agree about the chain! I think as the year goes on I am a lot less concerned about quality and more about just doing something, and that's becoming kind of liberating. I think it's possible that just by doing that over and over, interesting and good things emerge from places and in ways you could never imagine.
