Ugh, speaking of messes. Really wishing I had time to come up with a better bridge, and to balance the handling the glass marimba and gamelan handling the ostinato, but oh well, here we are. Happy Week 5 everybody!

Really nice!

Well that didn’t work..
Supposed to be an image from Saga Frontier 2 that matches pretty well with this. Loving it, invoking some nice feels here.

I want to play whatever video game this is the soundtrack for wink. I think the percussion has a really cool rhythm and I like the chord progression that starts to get outlined with the synth 10 seconds in. I also dig the vocal synth that occasionally chimes in for some added color.

Mmmmm digging these dense, beefy pads.  Very cool imagery for the music.

Love the pulsing rhythmic feel to this.  That one flutey wavering melody gave me some old school Boards of Canada vibes meets Chrono Trigger.  Nice work!

this is very nice, i enjoyed the listen!

Really feeling a sense of spelunking/exploring in this one. Love the chords and drum rhythms especially. I think it's the glass marimba I hear providing a nice rhythmic contrast, which I really enjoy!

Enjoyed this shiny piece of music.

i like the vocal chorusy bits a lot it really pulled you into the scene

those gamelan? sounds certainly have an underground vibe to them somehow - really fits with the title. love those vocal sounds and the lush strings. really nice tune.

the gentle pulse of that metallic percussion is really cool.  yeah the vocal part is really satisfying.

100% agreed, this gives me stroooong SNES RPG vibes! Very nicely done smile
The vocal "aahhs" here and there sound really evocative and pair super duper well with the denser percussion.

Was bummed when it ended and moved on to the next song.  Great vibes

No kidding! The Saga Frontier 2 composer is probably one of my all-time favorites. heart And I love his piano arrange album for that soundtrack!

Hehe, I wish it were an actual game soundtrack. I'm having fun toying with the idea of doing more consistent thematic continuity and arrangement on WB this year though. I'm glad to hear you liked this one!

Neat to hear! I'll have to give Boards of Canada a deeper listen at some point and see what I can learn. Definitely a fan of Chrono Trigger and its soundtrack. big_smile

Thanks! I definitely wish this one had turned out tighter, but I had fun experimenting with the rhythm. smile

Yep! There's gamelan and glass marimba in there. Glad to hear they worked okay in the context of this track. Thank you for listening!

Thanks! Those were probably my favorite things to play around with in this track.
Looks like I've got some listening homework to do (NIN, Golden Sun, Boards of Canada, Chrono Trigger).
Now I'm suddenly curious what it would sound like if Radiohead did the soundtrack to Pokemon. tongue

Glad to hear it! Someday I'd love to work on an RPG of some kind. Thank you!

Wow, that's kind of you to say! Thank you so much.

wait have you never heard Boards of Canada?

There have been soundtracks that are better than the game they're from, and this game would have to be very, very good to not be one of them.

I have now! big_smile Gave Dayvan Cowboy a listen, and boy do I love that track now. The shimmery intonation of those guitar strums, the steady drumbeat, the growth in textural complexity over time, the sense of steadily moving toward a single point with more and more conviction - it's just so cool.

(Incidentally, these are all things I dig about your music as well. big_smile )

That is incredibly sweet of you to say. heart Thank you so much.
Just curious, what are the others? smile

You'll know it when you hear the soundtrack before playing the game, like Consortium for example, or Bit.Trip runner 2. Soundscapes that inspire a lot of imagination, but definitely not what the gameplay is like in the end.

Getting a Donkey Kong Country 2 vibe with the percussion and the voice arp. I actually enjoyed the strange chord change bridge, sometimes smooth transitions are less interesting. Good work!

Whoa those super strings at the beginning.
