mysterious shopkeeper

I like that this sounds thematically consistent with the last couple of weeks of songs, like this mystery shop is located near the moon mine settlement. I get that feeling mostly from that drum pattern. I dig the thick atmosphere created by that buzzy bass and distorted guitar smile

Agreed with ViridianLoom, feels like a continuation of the moon saga which I'm loving! I particularly enjoy the part that sounds a bit like vocals and how it trades off with the guitar which sounds the way sparkles look. The drums pulling back around :58 is a great moment.

excellent drum sounds throughout and really dig the melody of the vocally_lead synth sound.  Has a bit of a sci-fi-theme meets boards o'canada feel.  well done!

this reminds me a little of Boards of Canada, just a bit more psychedelic. Both are hig praise in my book...great one!

From the name, I was expecting a little blippy chiptune number but man this thick atmosphere is awesome!

Sweeeeettttt, love the fatty bass and ghostly vocals.

The title is  beautiful, summoning images, which then feed into the track. The ominous chord progression coupled with the vocal layers weave a beautiful picture.

Agree with Kedbreak, the title got some images going for me then the song furthered those images. What's in this shop? It's a mystery that's not going to stop. Really like the vocal layers ... from the back of the shop.

Thanks! The shop could indeed be near the moon mine. It could also be anywhere the adventurers in this story (whoever they are) happen to be. I guess I thought of it as a theme for a shopkeeper that happens to show up wherever the action is in an RPG, who’ll sell you what you need to overcome the next boss no questions asked.

And I’m really glad to hear that the new instrumentation choices and attempts at thematic continuity are working out okay! (Though I may be breaking continuity a little with the next submission. Ah well.)

Really glad to hear it - especially since I struggled for a while settling on both of those moments. Thanks so much good sir! big_smile

Thanks! It’s funny, I keep hearing Boards of Canada come up this year, and now I keep hearing Boards of Canada because I can’t stop listening to some of their tracks. smile This one wasn’t necessarily BoC inspired, but future tracks definitely could be!

Thanks! I’m coming to realize what people mean with the BoC comparisons, and it’s high praise indeed and very kind of you to say. heart

Thank you! Maybe I can work in some chiptune later in the year to balance it out. wink

Thank you! I’ve been having a lot of fun with both of those this year.

Thank you! I always worry a little about choosing the right title - it’s almost always the last thing that gets finalized for my tracks. But I’m glad to hear this one matched up okay.

That’s a neat way to look at it! Thanks so much for listening.

Does he sell potions? Are they strong?
Nice choir stuff.

You could say that. He sells Strong™️, and they are potions. And those potions are very strong.

He also sells choirs but they aren’t very effective in battle. tongue

BoC is so good, can't believe you haven't really listened to them before (before this year even???)

I kind of want to make the drums so loud that the track is almost unlistenable

also, i want to play the role of the mysterious shopkeeper in the LCB film please

the poem is SO GOOD sorry it's like genius how you did it.

you are such a good musician/poet/story writer

Yeah, BoC is becoming one of my favorite recent discoveries.

If I revisit tracks from WB2024 later, I’ll have to make special OD versions with drums cranked to the max. wink

You’d make a wonderful mysterious shopkeeper. It doesn’t hurt that you’ve got experience selling your music and merch! smile

And I’m really grateful for the kind words about the poem. I had fun writing it too.

Committing to a continuous story and soundtrack this year definitely  hasn’t been easy, but hearing you say it’s been working has helped a ton with motivation. I’ll do my best to keep the story going!
