Said Odin to the watchman,
"Tell me all that you have seen,
for I pray your panacea
to the terrors my son dreams."
**
Said Heimdall, Odin's watchmen,
"Yes, these dreams are known to me,
for the subjects of his nightmares
are the futures I foresee.
**
I foresee a brutal winter;
I foresee a rising tide;
I foresee a wolf, a serpent,
and a traitor at their side;
**
I foresee a time of men of fire
and sunless, moonless skies;
I foresee a grief that none can speak,
though most can empathize."
**
Said Odin, "Ragnarok." And then –
"Why, Heimdall, do you grin?"
“Why, in Midgard, Ragnarok is come,
though here it yet begins –
**
and Ragnarok has, several times,
struck all nine worlds of ours,
but out of all Yggdrassil's fruits,
Midgard each time endures.
**
This shall be the panacea,
this shall help your child to heal –
for Ragnarok is cyclical,
though Midgard may yet break the wheel."

Here’s a throwback to WeeklyBeats 2018. I was never satisfied with how the 2018 iteration of this track turned out, and this week seemed like a good opportunity to give it another go. In 2018, I called it “valhalla” and drew inspiration from Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology. This year, as part of a self-imposed, Gaiman-inspired challenge to come up with tracks for all nine Norse cosmological worlds, I’m dedicating the track to Midgard – our world. Even in the middle of Ragnarok, it's a place worth fighting for.

Oh, and it rained this weekend. That, among other things, merits celebration.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and take care everybody! 2020's just the latest spin of the wheel. We can turn it around.
