Ghosts of the land

This is a very personal piece. On the evening of last week’s submission I told my friend @BurnedOutSun, while very drunk, that I would like to visit my grandparents grave on the way back.

I haven’t been there for 20 years.

It’s a story any family has honestly has. Time passes and you lose track of it, friends, families, arguing, loving, and just time passing. We went there on the way back, I didn’t quite cry as I was looking for their tomb. In truth, it was scorching hot, close the 30 degrees and high noon. The last time I was there it was pouring rain and I couldn’t remember when it was until I saw their grave. The feeling of them gone sank and I felt my throat tighten. It was alright, it’s emotions.

Next to it was a 16yo girl that died too young. In 1871. Grave unkept with just a metal cross on the ground.

This is a place where families of veterans and soldiers were buried. Many people died in 1870-1871 in a war with Germany most people forgot. Thanks for that.

The next day we travelled through Eastern France, then the Rhine and Germany. All those lands where so many died for useless reasons. We talked about it with my friend. And of other stuff that are in our lives.

Last weekend was the 24h of Le Mans, a celebration with so many nations, around motorsport, that expanded after the 2nd World War and joins people of diverse culture and origins, that can have fun, laugh and cheer together. Isn’t it funny how 160 years after so many things passed, a couple of guys from nations that would kill each other a few generations ago could just have fun bantering and enjoying such a weekend.

# Technical details

I had bigger expectations notably recording the drum parts on my cajon, but the time never materialised.

I also tried to record odd times but as my friend @dreat told me today, it’s just not how thought it was big_smile

- 3 classical guitar tracks (L, center, right) plus one solo
- 3 voice tracks (lead, bass and some alternative one)

I think it’s okay, the voices could be better, but as always… recorded on iPhone, so never had the opportunity to make it sound better. I am happy with the poly-harmonics and just being able to do something like this.

Anyway. New week, let’s see what I will cook this time.

Very sombre vibe, you did capture the feelings very well. Also great job with choir!
