Violin

By leafo on November 16, 2014 11:54 pm

So I bought a violin about a month or so ago and started practicing so I could add it to my weekly beats. It's my first fretless instrument so I'm still pretty bad (and I now understand why people say learning violin is hard). This is my first attempt at recording myself playing it. As soon as I started I realized I was screwed, it took me tons of attempts and I couldn't get a good recording, my pitch was off and I couldn't play consistently. I was running out of time and getting stressed so I got some linux auto-tune plugin and put it between my violin recording and effects. Nice. I still suck at violin but at least I was able to finish. smile

Naturally I ran out of time for everything else as well so the guitar playing is sloppy, the bass lines are boring, and the drums repeat a lot. Enjoy!

Used violin, classical guitar, electric bass, and hydrogen with drum sample pack. All effects in renoise, mastered with calf.

For all the struggles you had with it, this came together in a really promising way.  Intonation is indeed tough, but if you put the time in, your pitch sense should get better even without you realizing it.  The auto-tune is a pretty good solution, though, for a quick track.  I like it.

Pretty darn good, all in all. Intonation is a bear with fretless instruments, especially if you don't play on a regular basis; after playing cello for ten years, I still find myself touching up pitches in Melodyne :-)

wow, I made this 4 years ago. pretty sure I've gotten worse haha
