Tech savvy

Although 99% of my musical output is downtempo, I DO listen to several hours of techno and house on a daily basis (I'm a deep house and dub techno buff, actually) yet I've never felt that my tracks were up to the standards of the genre.

So this week (Sunday, actually) I put this joint together in Renoise, using some of my basic homegrown kits (909 and Boss DR110 basically), yet I still fell the sound palette is more suitable for those long atmospheric spaces between notes when working at 84 bpm and the like.

I maybe keep trying to improve in this type of sound.

Sorry for the abrupt ending. I run out of time and had some problems with the rendering (I named the file ",mp3" instead of ".mp3" yet I didn't noticed, so everything kept rejecting it).

Extra thanks to Wisefire for the late upload link smile

This is a really cool drum pattern, I would've let it evolve even slower, those atmospheric spaces between notes are sure enjoyable!

I think the track would definitely benifit from more BASSSSSSS

love when the clap comes around, now do double hand claps! XD

(let's just pretend I wrote benefit)

Some nice sounds here, especially when that modulating synth comes in at 2:00, reminds me I have a dr660 collecting dust, should try and do something with it.

Hahaha I take that benefit, man! no sweat!

I don't really know how to mix the track properly, so I was cautious with the bass levels, though I get your point. I'm afraid it has too much ringing hihats because I'm all used to pitch down everything in my muddy downtempo/hiphop tracks, yet I guess techno sounds more pristine.

Thanks a lot for the positive feedback

Oh, I'm really bad with drum machines. I mean: i truly love them, but after a while I sampled them and never use them after I tweak their samples. Only exception: my Behringer TR6 (606 clone).

Would love to have some WB members close so we could swap instruments for a few days, so we get the excitement of exploring a new box without the hoarding wink

slippy slidey synth line.

It's a mild surprise you're into techno this much, but it's an even bigger surprise you're producing it! A lot of your other output was not only downtempo (like you mentioned) but generally more berlin-style electronica, maybe krautrock.

I like what you did here. Suggestion: it's not exactly easy in Renoise, but I'd use some glue compression to make the drum kit sound tighter. And yes, more prominent bass wouldn't hurt!
