Silicon dawn

I think I came with a pretty nerdy piece, sampling Youtube's The 8 bit guy and making almost everything with a Drum Rack.

I started with some mediocre samples from a mediocre drum machine: the Alesis DM4. Usually when I'm out of ideas I browse through those lame collections of dull sounds and try to twiste them the best I can, until I get something somewhat decent.

When the song was almost finished, I placed a little bit of Native Instruments Rounds synth over it. Maybe the pad is too subtle, but the song started very minimal and beat-based, so I didn't wanted to lose it going the ambient route.

I was almost finished and still didn't have a title or a common theme, so I wondered through some of my favourite subscriptions looking for some catch phrase. I love David' show about retro computers (and 80's cheap toy keyboards) and that line had some potential for an EP/album opener.

Hope I get the guy's approval to make it publicly available beyond the WB community.

Well, tomorrow's workday so no more typing. Let's go to sleep now smile

Have a really good week, wherever you are !!!

Sweet. Drums perhaps up a little much in the mix?

Well, I thought they didn't sounded punchy enough, as always... Maybe I'll raise the pad a little bit, because as I said, it all started as a very minimal, almost melodyless drum jam

Thanks for listening and commenting, Jim!

Yeah, that's the idea, Sir!

Ionly had chance to listen on small speakers but it did sound punchy!!! Enjoyed it smile

Nice job, drums certainly don't sound lame anymore, have to love YouTube for finding some last minute vocal samples or soundbites

I personally think the pads are at a good volume since you have the trap-like drums with their dancing hats.  It's like the drum kit is the center piece and the pads are just lightly holding it up smile  A cool laid back track!

That's exactly what I was aiming for, man! I built the track like a beat from a drum machine, even letting some moments without any pads. In fact, I added the pads because it sounded too "dark" and minimal, so maybe those really simple chords would add some emotional warmth to the whole piece.

I wish I had your skills to build great chord progressions smile
