Prince Nibble's fanfare

By laguna on June 29, 2014 11:46 pm

I've spent this last week far from home, my friends and my studio. Crappy GPRS internet speed except here in a random cafe from a random city I don't want to visit again. Pretty much no time to work on music, but somehow I found some brief moments to work on this almost-too-short piece.

It all started with an atmospheric flute-like sample from the wonderful track Salamander by Tim Koch. I'm posting this one hoping he finds I did something worth of mention... Second time I sample a fellow WeeklyBeater, so I hope you judge me as a benevolent thief smile .

Much respect indeed to Tim Koch and his music. I tried to rebuild those etereal two initial flute bars but could not achieve the same groove, so I kept it (maybe a little buried) and build the whole melody on top of it.

Tools of the trade: Ableton Live, Plogue Chipsounds, heavily altered Kutmasta Kurt hip hop breaks and some crappy voice recordings. Wish I had more time, really, but that's the way the Weekly goes smile

I imagine when I'm at work and leave my computer on that it starts dancing and making its own music and it probably sounds something like this.

It is too short :-) !

Too short, but some of the nicest "chip" tune I've heard in a long time. Develop it more!

great track. I hope you can make something similar with indeed more playtime wink
I am also going on a little vacation soon and have to think about a way to find time for making something...we'll see how that goes wink

love the mix of the chiptunes and the acoustic drums. It's short, yes, but a lot of fun!!!

Awesome work - nice to hear it chilled out and somewhat slowed .. as mentioned before my comment, would be cool to hear a fleshed out version - nice one!

dope track!, i wish this was longer, reminds me of Dabrye, I also wish many of his tracks were longer

Nice work! Short and sweet. Well done.

Whoa, man! You make my day! Dabrye is one of my favourites. I love his digital hip hop idea.

Quite a compliment to hear that. Thanks!!!

Thanks for letting me start with your inspiration, man. And sorry to reply your comment so late!

I took the first loop and warped it a little bit with Ableton, then I applied EQ and some delay and reverb. My track's atmosphere would be totally different without that sample!

As usual, you get the computer references. I wish I could complete the whole court by the end of the year, and expand the fanfare a little bit.

Thanks again man. I read you are taking some weeks off... Hope to hear you soon here!

I imagined it a little bit more chippy. Prince Nibble would have his 4 bits blinking but... I guess that's the idea. Thanks

THanks, guys. I'm really glad you've enjoyed this almost-too-short-to-be-submitted piece. I promise I'll do some proper fanfare to celebrate the castle and the whole chiptune royal family. smile

Peace and thanks again for listening

I wish I had that effect, Edmund, but... That would be a good idea for some animated story. Although Prince Nibble is a very serious guy and likes to have some chiptunes played in his honour any time he enters the room.

nice squarey synth and the breaks fit nicely in the mix smile
