Mid-life lack-of-bass complex

By laguna on May 27, 2018 11:44 pm

Still struggling and navigating through corporate bulls**t, I managed to make this one out from an old Renoise "choppage" I did building some of my own kits. This was on my loops archive and going nowhere, though I managed to give it some structure and what I think it's an acceptable swing.

The title is some kind of self joke about being 40 and still "looking for the perfect beat". Guess some of you out there would identify wink

D16's Phoscyon on the acidic side and a fantastic NI's FM8 preset ("bell air") used without any tweaking (I've owned Komplete for various years without scratching the surface and I still haven't checked many of its synths).

The merit (or fault) for the overcompressed beat goes to the lovely free D16's Frontier compressor/limiter. Please make yourself a favour and try it.

Extra kudos for any fellow WBeater who identifies the "Bring the beat back!" sample during the breakdown wink

I really want to properly answer last week's comments. You were really supportive and gave me a real positive boost during a difficult time. Things are still hectic, but the music remains as a peaceful outlet. Lots of love to the WB family out there, wherever you are!

Have a great week smile See you in the comments.

Tricky and complete; nicely salvaged.

Holy goodness the overcompression is so freakin TIGHT.  I am definitely downloading that compressor ASAP.  Where do I download the plugin to become as talented as you, though?  I have a mid-life "I'm not Laguna" crisis. wink

When you go into the bit crush breakdown, that is my jam.  Also, I love the warble synth playing off the FM bell.  very pretty contrast.

Hang in there with the corporate drama.  As Tyler Durden put it: "You are not your job." heart

the womwomwomwomwomwomwom sounds so great with this compressed kit!
