Euclidean room

Pretty happy with this one, mainly because I had some proper time to work on it!

It all started with a VCV Rack (excellent open source virtual Eurorack emulator) patch. Once I learned how to dump the sketch to Ableton, everything came naturally and it was 98% finished. I wanted to add some impressing intro with some speech about synths and Euclidean rhythms, but I was unable to find what I had in mind. In the end, I opted to keep it "as is" and maybe add something when it's not rushed.

Mixed on iPhone earbuds, maybe it's too bassy. I tested it after on my usual production headphones but I kept the "punchier on earbuds" mix nonetheless.

I'll post some screenshots of the VCV Rack patch once I'm on my big monitor.

Hope you like this small tune. Have a great week, wherever you are smile

It rocks in all the appropriate ways. Another gem for my playlist.

So much better than those non-Euclidean ones.

I've been interested in tinkering with VCV rack but it looks a bit intimidating.  Probably the same reason I haven't gotten into modular stuff (aside from the cost).  Those bassy underlying pads sound really good.  It doesn't sound too bassy either to me.  Nice work!

Whoah, Jim! Quite flattered to hear you calling this "a gem". As always, I deeply thank you for your constant feedback.

Glad you liked it, man!

(Me being glad now:)

I must admit the phrases are not "so Euclidean" in the way, because of the interaction of triggers in the patch, but there were some proper generators involved smile

Thanks a lot, Devieus smile

I've got a pretty small Eurorack setup and VCV Rack has helped me value what I could need inside it and what "has no point" being there. I'm not "an analog purist" by any means. I think modular it's interesting when you try to do all things that are not obvious on a DAW, but gets cumbersome when you try to use it as a regular synth.

Give VCV Rack a go. It's an excellent platform for learning. I'm planning some brief tutorials on my patches in the near future (we just have barely 3 more months of WB), so I'll keep you posted about my Youtube channel smile

It's cool to hear you dig the bass part, since your tracks are always well balanced and clear while I tend to muddy things too much.

Thank you again, Eric!

It's still pretty much in linear space though.

I'd love to feature some proper polyrhythms and euclidean prime variations in the future, if I can get an interesting arrangement out of it

Glad you got some free time and you should be happy with this one.  Great balance of sounds, like the bass as is and the crunchy/dirty sound of the beats.  Glad you could work in some modular sound, it’s a little too daunting for me, tried softube modular but couldn’t come up with anything on my own.

I tried Softube myself and found it a little "meh". I really recommend to have a look at VCV Rack. The project, being open source, is evolving really quickly and it's very very promissing. It has some straight ports of physical units, so it's very fun to watch any hardware video and recreate the patch on your own.

For me your mobile music making is still pretty daunting! I can't seem to get my head around the Audiobus thingie smile

Thanks a lot for the feedback, Jason. I'd love to catch up with your releases soon!

the mix sounds fab!  feels like the sounds the trees are making as they change colors

I'd never think of that, though there's some crunchiness to it, like autumn leaves smile

Thanks a lot, Kaedo!
