Encoded affection

By laguna on March 4, 2018 11:57 pm

This week I worked on a different project, even on a future video for a track. However, I had to work on different other things, my own Linux Server included, so around Friday I started looking around my old Reason projects.

I know, I know smile It's quite monotone and really sparse. I had not enough time and the melodic ideas I have went nowhere, so I prefered this minimal glitchy hip hoppy jam to a rather annoying bassline I kept almost until the end "bacause it was on the original track" from almost twelve years ago.

Maybe with some work, it could become something more than a sleepy background music. Hope you find it relaxing, at least.

UPDATE: I've posted here a slighty retouched version, a little bit clearer and with some less mistakes in the rhythmic side of things. Please have a listen at it if you feel like it wink

ooh, very thick sound, sound design on the snare and other percussive elements is super engaging imo!

Hey, really glad you noticed that snare! It's made of actually two distictive sounds: one low "glup" sound, like a water drop, and some glitchy sort of wood/metal short hit, passed through a slight resonant filter. I wanted it to have some punch while not sounding like a common snare smile

The main glitches are made from a quite dull and "middle of the road" hip hop beat I programmed on Reason 4 basically in my early days with the tool, circa 2005. Since it was plain boring, I started pitching it and slicing it in Ableton without much thought, often with extreme adjustments. It has some autopanning on it and some sidechain compression linked to the big bass drum, like a bassline.

Thanks again for listening and commenting! Now some cool drumming ...

Heheh, wish my dogs would assist with percussion big_smile

This is really good minimal glitchy hip hoppy. I particulary like the sense of space.

Love this. Some really amazing tones on the drums

Really into the dark / silent hill sounding parts and the effected drums!

Thanks a lot, Jim. I'm glad you enjoyed such a sparse beat. I restrain myself of abusing the delay, as usual smile

Thanks, Grillo. It means a lot since your music it's being a true inspiration. Grazie molto!

Whoah... never had guessed the Silent Hill reference, though it's guite flattering, as a fan of such a both visually and sonically innovative saga. Thanks Scott!!!

I've posted a Soundcloud update, retouching some of the slements of the song and correcting some mistakes here and there, in case you'd want to give it another listen smile

I know you said sparse, but I love the beat the way it is.  It has it's own elements with the filter that give it life.  It would make a cool segway track or I can even hear a Com Truise-esque 80s arp following that synth.  smile me rikey

Enjoyed listening to this track. The sound is subtle and nice.

lovely!

Whoah I'm not familiar with Segway, but I do know and love Com Truise. Flattering comparison! (I'll check Segway soon).
