Digital heartbreak

Hello WeeklyBeats!

After a one-week hiatus and a long absence from the comments, I came back with this one. It's a little bit different from my traditional sound, though I'm quite happy with it, although it's really odd to hear me out loud "singing" (and pretending to be Luther Vandross for 10 seconds in the privacy of my room).

The bassline came to me in a dream, I swear, and I think the main idea of the song is almost like I dreamt, accounting for all the stuff I forgot the second I sat in front of the keyboard. I tried to keep it on a real eighties mindset so no clever microediting, no overproducing (from a 2018 perspective), lots of reverb (even on the master) and a simple delay. Just multilayered FM synths (presets from Ableton's Operator) and an almost untouched Roland TR-707 (samples of it, actually).

The lyrics are quite simple, indeed. I started mumbling and these words seem to fit and make some sense:

You don't want for me what I wish for you
You don't want for me what I wish for you
You don't want for me what I wish for you
I'm gonna save my love for someone that's true

Lot's of people here are quite more skilled than me on the harmony side of things, so please don't mind the basic chords. I'm quite clumsy when it comes to melodies, but I think this one is "hummable" and easily adaptable to, let's say, an 8 bit version.

I wish I could do a videogame out of this song. Something in it keeps bringing images of neon fake Miami nights and romance adventure... If anyone is interested in this (fake?) videogame soundtrack, or a similar concept, please let me know.

I'll be definetely catching up with your music and comments. Now please have a great week!

Lots of love to all of you from Madrid, Spain

This is classic. Nice work.

There's nothing wrong with simple, it's usually other things that make a bad song.

Keep it coming.

p.s. I just got to Planet Zaxxon's entry, it sounds like a solid match.

Thanks for the feedback and the good advice, Devious. I'm really enjoying Planet Zaxxon whole body of work on WB!

Really thankful for your comment... and glad about the "voice" bit. Feels pretty odd to be a "fake r&b singer" smile

Digging those Vandross vibes especially the backup vocal lines.  "Ya hurt me baaad!

Hahaha I was pretty ashamed thinking I got carried away, but... isn't that the style of a proper R&B lyric?

Thanks a lot, Eric!

so awesome to hear your "voice" - very hummable!

A dream can do very mysterious things smile
Great work, love the middle section as the Leads come in.
Of course the vocals too!

Yo, this is a killer groove! I have also had basslines come from dreams! I just rarely get to replicate them perfectly...ugh. Real cool hearing you sing on this one!
