Bye bye tristeza

By laguna on January 21, 2018 11:45 pm

Ok, this week I went in a different way: after I completed the whole 3 seasons of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" on Netflix, I felt like doing something more uptempo and positive than my usual stuff, thought my "upbeat" skills are quite limited.

I've been improving my own server and self-hosted cloud, so while digging in some forgotten folders in order to regain some more space, I found a really cool arpeggiated synth loop WHICH BELONGS TO A VSTi SYNTH DEMO. I say again, the main synth phrase, as catchy as I think it is, wasn't written by me. It was featured as an example of the VSTi capabilities.

I labeled my sample as "Tactile Sound - Transparent" and I downloaded it circa 2009-2010. Googling it did not showed me any significant results. Did those guys went out of business? If you have any info, please let me know.

Well, apart from the origin of that sticky synth loop, I thought it was pretty uplifting and it was sad to let it go to waste, specially when those tracks often go forgotten and not considered pieces of music "worth keeping". So I added a few layers of really simple drums and a bass line. I was starting to add too much elements when my family told me I was messing too much with the idea, so I decided to leave it that way.

So, here you have, a "borrowed" synth hook, a bass and some schematic beats. And a title that means "bye bye sadness" (Didn't went for my original spanish "adios tristeza" because I forgot a very famous spanish band has a whole album under that title).

I'm not specially confortable taking some sample which I could not properly give props and credit, so maybe if you know about that "Tactile Sound's Transparent", please let me now.

And if by chance you follow Kimmy Schmidt, this is the positive attitude:

Thank you Lydia! Of course, the peacock and the limo is optional for a positive point of view smile

Caviar. Rosanne Barr. Laguna my friend, you'll go far!

Hahahaha Sodabelly, mate, you made my day !!!

Thanks and ...

The very personification of pep. And how could anyone claim cropyright on an arpeggiation (electronica's gift to mankind)_

Arps are FABULOUS!! Fun tune! I gotta watch some Kimmy Schmidt, I think I'd like a lot smile

I'm afraid to admit I don't know what pep means, man smile Anyhow, it's a coold arpeggiated phrase and credits given when credit is due. Thanks for commenting and dropping by, as always smile

Meanwhile... that's the pep I know:

Glad you enjoyed the tune... and I'm sure you'd enjoy Kimmy. It starts kinda normal, but it gets (nicely) more fun and surrealistic with every episode

3 seasons in a week... admirable. My favorite part is the intro music (composed by Tina Fey's husband I believe). Nice 80s arps and a great track!

Well, that's not even on the Hall of Fame. I watched the whole four seasons of he new Battlestar Galactica in just three days smile I was cold in bed with the flue, so it was better than coughin.

That intro song is catchy as hell, man. Glad you liked my tiny track, and thanks for droppin' by!!!

very  nice. Quite housey ... I like it a lot. It is indeed a very happy track. well, it makes me happy, at least! smile

As much as I liked her character on The Office (American), I couldn't get into Kimmy Schmidt for some reason.

you never fail with those rolling drum beats. Lovely atmosphere big_smile

Dude, great inspiration (love that show) and great upbeat music! I think the up-rising arps really convey a positive attitude, and the bassline keeps things from feeling too campy or saccharine. Well done smile My only note would just be that I'd like to see more of the counter phrase in the full length! It comes in around 2/3rds of the way and it's a great way to break up the song, but maybe two times with mild variation between them wouldn't hurt?

That's the best compliment I could wish, since that was my intention smile Really glad you enjoyed it!

I actually haven't seen her in anything else. Never found The Office, neither the US nor the original UK version, any fun in the slightess, so I guess we all have different takes on humour. Anyway, that's the whole point of diversity in comedy smile

Thanks for dropping by as always, Edmund!

Thanks Abludo! I'm sure I could have gone with a more "banger" route, but I really didn't wanted to give it a "Laidback Luke" festival beat, just a slightly housy beat, and I found a forgotten "natural percussion" pack of samples with all those shakers and metal triangles. I think they work great as a parenthesis from my more synthetic stuff

Thanks again for the feedback!

Yes, indeed. Do you mean the "FM bell"-esque sound? It's a really simple FM patch with the same arps made in fifths. As you mentioned it, I ended waiting for it to appear in every listen. I'll probably make a SOundcloud edit sometime in the future. I'm aware it's quite monotonous and really simple, but I wanted to keep "the feeling" instead of going the "there's something missing... I should add 4 sends of interconnected beat repeaters" route, if you know what I mean.

Really appreciated, man! Thanks very much for the feedback!

I really dig the laid-back groove here. Happy chillout music for sure. Love the shakers and bell in the percussion. Nice!

so pretty!

Thanks Roboctopus! It's nice to see the uplift vibe worked. I'm not very good at "happy" tracks. And after too much "synthetic noises" it was cool to use some traditional percussion
