Pluto

this year I'm collaborating with my offspring (14) on tracks all year
this one is more or less a demo of a suite of songs they are working on with their friend based on the planets, in this case, Pluto

song idea is by them, instruments and sounds by both of us
sorry if the mix is mid, I don't have a good monitoring setup going yet

I really like the atmosphere in this track! Could be a soundtrack to a Firefly-esque show smile.

haha that sounds like a fun year to look forward to.

Aw man, I love how bluesy and showdown-y this feels!!! The organ chords paired with the guitar and all of these human percussive elements just gel SO nicely together!
Also, super heart warming to hear you're collaborating with your kid on this. It'll be such a nice thing to look back to in several years. Super special!

My kids are a little young to be able to meaningfully record anything with me, but they're starting to express an interest in doing "concerts" with me. I'm eager to hear anything you learn and any tips you have to help foster not only a continued interest in music, but for good ways to share that in the context of a parent-child relationship. Excited to follow you this year!

YASSSSSSS that is so cool and i love the way this track sounds really just everything about it. Thank you!!!

slick resonator (is that what it is? the guitar i mean)! great collab w the kiddo! I recommend having fun and embracing when it sounds bad as well as good, as long as you make sounds! the worst as a beginner in music is to not wanna practice because it sounds bad, or being afraid of playing the wrong notes or whatev. speaking from experience.  Sounds like you're already doing this btw, so kudos and keep going! heart

If you go back to my WB 2014, that's the year my YOUNGER kid was born, and this one was 3 - you'll catch a lot of our early "collaborations" there. It's kinda about...

100%. It's about making not making perfect. I really want them to get that experience. At this point they've been around and involved in my music in various ways for so long that this has felt really natural. There's no reason not to start early.

An old trick I used a couple times while doing mix sessions while the kids were still in diapers was just to tune an instrument (a ukelele or whatever) to the appropriate key, mic it up, and record while doing mixdown stuff, then just work those tracks in wherever.
I also had some friends working on a project record my kid hitting a tambourine once and use it a bunch of times in a song to give them a credit when they were like 2 years old. A little cheeky maybe, but it's a fun thing to look back on! XD

I love the lo fi percussion just plopping away in the background, just gives everything a fun loose jam vibe.
Such a cool way to have fun with your kids too! Can't wait to hear more!

lol this is amazing!
