The Last Ninja

By Kedbreak136 on July 21, 2024 1:24 pm

I wish I had spent more time on this track, just not finding the energy after work. Hopefully I can rebalance things soon. As a result, the track is a bit too barebone to my taste, with abrupt transitions, and could benefit from some polishing. But it's Sunday night and I need to close the week.

The title is inspired both by the name of the preset of one of the synth and by an old 80s game where one plays a Ninja. I remember getting that game for Christmas or for my birthday and I never ever went past the first level. Those games were brutally hard!

Always love the variation you bring in these songs. It doesn't feel barebones to me. Great build and transitions (and sirens)

Always love the development in Kedbreak tracks.  That slap bass + breaks transitioning into the police sirens is intense!

For a track you say you didn't have much energy for, it sure has some great energy.  Definitely gives me a mental image of an intense battle taking place in the streets.

Love the use of the drums giving it that fast paced energy.  Slap bass makes it even slicker especially at the 1:48ish mark.  Just checked out the game it looks like they set a ninja loose in Paperboy's neighborhood smile  Oooh and sweet melody that gets introduced in the last half.  I hope work gets less stressful for ya!

The plucky instrument at 1:40 (a Koto, maybe?) really stopped me in my tracks cause it was so damn cool. Reeeeally cool mix of vibes here!!!

Fun track, like those sirens, I wouldn’t call this barebones, plenty going on and nice transitions, that bass is funky!

Love the energy the track brings and always your use of surprising samples.  Great slamming percussion to bring the track home!   And yeah, some of those old school games were brutal.  😅

yes, that's the game, though I was playing it on an EGA display so did not get those splending Amiga graphics. Thank you for listening!

Haha thank you! It's more the intense battle of myself with the keyboard trying to figure out how to move the ninja in a sensible manner. smile

Thank you very much! I am supposed to have a couple of days off but might have to take my computer with me. sad Why do i get a new project every time i'm about to go on vacations?

This is indeed a Koto. Thank you very much for listening and the comment.

Funky bass is one of the most important ingredients when mixed with breakbeats, it makes the track live. smile Thank you for commenting!

Thank you for the comment! I added layers and layers of taiko band samples to bring some more oomph and energy to the track. Good old school games that were still arcade level of difficulty even on your amiga or atari or pc.

Perfect kind of track for a game like The Messenger, which I coincidentally played for the first time last week. Excellent ninja game, HIGHLY recommend.

this is still in the hotline miami (hotline tokyo???) universe, as it is about a trained assassin!  this maybe could have been 30sec shorter (of music, i like the siren ending) but i bet you would have had you spent more time on it - still very fun!
