Sunday Night Drive

By Kedbreak136 on July 19, 2020 12:06 pm

I usually go for pompshipompshi, chug chug pew pew kind of music but this time I wanted to try out a different kind of atmosphere. Like a sunday night on the road, in the middle of a long trip. It's 3am, you're stopping at a gas station, getting a coffee and a cigarette while the traffic continues flowing by.

Not totally satisfied with this one, the piano could sound better and I feel the track overall is missing something. Some transitions are a bit abrupt. But it's outside my comfort zone, which is a perfect weekly beats experiment!

It's nice to get out of our comfort zones once in awhile and Weekly Beats is definitely a good place to it.  I definitely get the 3 am gas station vibe during the end section.  The part before I guess was the drive, but it had kind of an ominous feel to it I thought.  Great atmosphere throughout.

Really, really like the mood you've crafted with this track. Great job, especially considering it's outside of your comfort zone.

Good ambient and it has a suspenseful feel to the synths. This keyboard at the end is very nice with the traffic sound. I like this!

This is cool as hell man, nice work for stepping out of your comfort zone.  Love all the sound effects of the cars going by and the cigarette being lit.  I'm definitely hearing the vibe you were going for here, but also in a futuristic setting.  Not sure if you were going for the future thing or not, but I think it works pretty well.

Cool synthwave! Liking all of the ambience; I can totally picture myself there if I close my eyes.

In the beginning your song has a more futuristic atmosphere, because of the synths, I guess. But with the second cigarette, you have been smoking, the song changes into a more becalmed mood. a well-made cinematic audio.

I love the descriptor you made for your music even though I'm not sure what pompshipompshi would be haha. I think you were able to catch the mood you were going for here, like Q Rosh said it sounds like the first half is the drive and the second half is the rest stop. Trying new things is always a cool idea, it's nice to learn new stuff and incorporate it into your overall style for the future.

Very TRON-like, and I love it. Sweet as hell. Well orchestrated.

This is fitting for a scene. You'r inclusion of sound prominintly in this piece is different than what I usually hear in film, where the music will take over. The blending of the two is done well. I feel the story has a presence much more prominent than it could if all we heard was just music or music and minor instances of ambient noise from the road or just the puff of smoke at key moments.

This is really cool, sounds like a drive in some dystopian future, no destination, just looking for a place to crash for the night in safety.

This has a cool late 80s even 90ish soundtrack feel to it.  Ever seen the movie, 'The Wraith'?  Charlie Sheen in some weird futuristic ghost car getting revenge smile  This gave me images of something like that.  Nice use of the field recording and foley.  Nice job!

I like this!  It's like its cinematic yet very retro at the same time.  Not quite horror.  Could be in The Warriors or something.  Hehe.

Nice.

I guess I cannot help adding an ominous/minor/dark feel. smile

I actually was not going for a futuristic vibe, I was going more for a Lost Highway vibe on the road but you're right that arps instantly bring Blade Runner or Tron to the mind!

Thank you. On a new listen, this track feels a bit disjointed. Lots of different vibes. It might have been good to focus on one or the other or transition them more seamlessly. I cheated with cigarette sounds!

Yes definitely it's the whole point. Weekly Beats is just perfect for trying things out, see what works, what does not work and adding a couple of tricks to one's repertoire.

I often use atmosphere samples in the background to suggest of a vibe but this time indeed I tried the opposite - to have the atmosphere sample as the main element and the music as a support for it.

Yes I like that idea of driving without destination and looking for a place to crash for the night!

I have never watched it but heard of it. The movie about this alien/ghost who comes and takes revenge on the death of a guy by doing races with gang members and killing them one by one? It sounds a bit like the Crow but with cars and Charlie sheen. smile

The synths here are great. Feels like I'm currently on the run, and trying to hide in plain sight.

Haha yeah the Crow is wayyyy better but for it's time when I was a kid I was fascinated with the car and the dark suit and helmet he wore.  The gang he goes up against is such an 80s gang though lol.

Kid: "Are you going to the Kedbreak136 show?"
Other Kid: "Who???"
Kid: "Kedbreak136"
Other Kid: "Never heard of them, probably not my scene."
Kid: "Are you kidding?  It's Pompshipompshi, Chug Chug Pew Pew music."
Other Kid:

I liked the subtlety of this, my favorite is the lighter clicking and the little "end credit "coda

would love to see more of these
