Napoleon Dynamite those Space Invaders

By Kedbreak136 on August 23, 2020 10:58 am

This track started from a riff inspired from Legion, the serie on Netflix. And it kinda evolved a few days ago into a disco tribute to Napoleon Dynamite, before doing a sharp turn to 80s arcade shoot em up video games territory.
I kinda like the riffs but there are some things to improve to get the track to the next level. The mix is a bit confused, some transitions are a bit harsh. I think the track deserves a jazz break with a walking bass and it needs a little something else to take it to the next level. But this is as far as it will go today!

The gifs do a great job of illustrating the title.  There's really great energy to this and it does kind of sound like some kind of mashup of video game and dance club music.

This song is a journey. A disco journey with guns in space.

Super funky! I’m excited to hear what it would sound like with that jazz break.

raw power. well done.

A space disco empire! That deserves a concept album just about a civilization of disco addicts that enslave galaxies through the power of bass and claps.

I'll have to work on it then! smile

This kicks some serious ass.

Bruh, sometimes your tracks just kill me. hahaha. The story behind the track and the music itself are connected perfectly. That jammin' bassline does it for me. How did you make the bass sound? It's this hard, gritty, but beautifully full sound.

Massive and dear i say bombastic track, it outputs a lot of energy! I especially like the "ho-hoo" part! Well done!

Haha thanks! The bass is from FL Studio Sytrus, it's called "Metal preset" and I applied EQ, not much else. smile

Thank you! I am glad someone noticed the ho-hoo part, it felt absolutely necessary to the track. smile

Love Legion and Jeff Russo's score for it.  The beat in this is so infectious it's impossible not to tap your foot along and get down.  The bassline is super catchy along with that solo lead synth.  Well done!

This is great, well done. You could replace the drums with chiptune ones for even more of that arcade-y feel. The transitions are fine, but that jazz break you mentioned would fit well in 1:42. It wouldn't even need to be a jazz one, it can be pretty much anything.

Oh wow! Strong nostalgia vibe... it's like a thing that reminds me of great times playing arcade shooters from when I was a kid!!

Ha ha, I can hear both the Legion and Napoleon influences.  Great beats and those synth lines are so sharp they cut like saw tooth razors.

Yes indeed, a break at 1:42 would fit well, to add some variety to the track before going back to the main themes.

Nice! These arcade machines were so awesome (though I would never last more than a couple of minutes).

Hell yeah, this is awesome. So much energy.

I was smiling big before even playing this! Yeah that sounds about right description for this lol. I have watched a little Legion, it's pretty awesome, but can't recall the music right now. The napolean and arcade, yes! Great idea for the jazz break, so many songs could use a tasty jazz breat yes?

This is so SPOT ON for shooting games.  LOL The "WHOO HOO" was even the exact moment when you get a 1up!!!!

random ideas:
at 1:56 - I think you should have a quick breakdown before coming back that section, and then maybe you could come back with the new jazz drum break.  The 1:57 section is kind like the "LOW HEALTH" panic music - then you need a "HEALTH UP" sound" before coming back to the original riff at 2:17

Where my Ikaruga homies at???
