Matsuri

By Kedbreak136 on October 9, 2022 1:30 pm

Matsuri literally means "festival" in Japanese, in a traditional "religious" way. There was a traditional festival at the Shinto shrine in front of where I live. As part of the event, they carry around an Omikoshi, which is said to contain the local god. They take it to another shrine, and dance around, sing, play flute and hand percussion, and a lot of rice wine is consumed. I did several recordings of the percussion, flutes, and of the "soya soya" singing. This is the basis of the track. I added a shamisen to it (which you'd never hear in a festival, but that does not matter) and did an incursion into cyberpunk territory at midpoint, because hey-why-not.

That cyberpunk territory came out of nowhere, and was awesome!! Nice work smile

I'm sure the god is pleased with your tribute, I know I am
- Ebrit

It was wild when the festival hits the bassline at ~00:51.  tongue

The mix of the two between 1:22–2:00 really rocks out

Really cool use of the festival sounds and the transition into cyberpunk actually worked really well.  Cool track.

thank you. I have learned so much new cultural and deeply interesting things this year from you. your tracks are not only futuristic, always some cool storys and informations around it. this mixture here, I highly recommend.

Encore ta signature sur cette track!

Very cool. (Merci aussi pour les généreux commentaires, tu commentes beaucoup a beaucoup de gens ce qui est immensément apprécié et me donne juste asser de jus pour faire une autre petite track a chaque semaine!)

Great use of the live recordings and awesome transition at 0:52, after reading the description was wondering how this was going to work, and it worked as a perfect blend, really like how everything transitions back to the recordings and the flute at the end.

I love the dreamwavey/cyberpunk break-down, such a magical transformation! Everything fits together perfectly here, both in feel, and in timbral mix, plus the overall progression is ace heart

That festival audio is so great, I love how you used that. The change up was unexpected but so fun, and very you. Great to take some found sound and build you own creation around it, you do that well! Good times here, I want to celebrate now and move to these rhythms, and definitely march those characters in that gif above. Inspiring!

I love the matsuri sounds. the cyberpunk stuff is rad too! so bouncy. I didn't expect them to fit together reading the description but the vibe totally works.

the intro took us from the earthly realm into another space - feels like a cyberspirtual place - perhaps this is the spirit of your computer joining in the festivities?

Love the variety of instruments in this and how it goes full on cyberpunk.  Excellent tight drums with some thick arps oh yais!  Suhweet outro with the percussion

Fun interlude, and for a field recording it sounds great.

Great use of the festival recording!  I can't wait to visit you and attend some sort of folk/festival music thingie

the sounds going off in the distance was amazing - were they actually walking away from you or was it fade out magic?

That's why you're Kedbreak136 and not Kedbreak002

What is this image from?  An actual movie?  If so, I need to see it!
