Instant track - an ode to my speaking microwave

By Kedbreak136 on June 11, 2022 1:12 pm

During the weeklymeets last week, we ended up discussing about sampling microwaves for the next track. It is the most appropriate idea for a weekly beats track and therefore I stole the idea and ran away with it.

This is therefore my samples microwave, which you can hear commenting on the progress "I'll take care of heating it up!", "10 more seconds to go!", "it's reaaaady". And a beat that came to my mind while i was recording the microwave, maybe imitating what is happening to the atoms inside the microwave, dancing and popping up, all in the name of heating my morning coffee!

It's a bit of a speedtrash, but I welcome the levity as my week at work was brutal and I just have no energy left.

I really like what you're cooking up here

I applaud this idea and the way you saw it through to its logical conclusion.

It seems like you have the perfect microwave to sample.  Fun track with great energy.  Perhaps microwave energy...

Neat track. Neat microwave too!

This is lush—I think the issue with WB folks doing speedtrash is that the amount of skill and practice is noteworthy, and productions are razor sharp after 23 consecutive weeks of output. So “speedtrash” in the sense that you think it is, the sound, mix, and groove is top notch, and the track is stellar. Delightfully dancy and joyous. (This comment is legit me explaining what I meant by “this is lush” — smh at myself.)

hahah love it.. microwave is the new synthwave big_smile

I did not know the things can talk. But the explosions with the wrong elements are quiet impressive. Here you managed to cook a delicious track.

Party in the microwave!

(don't actually party in the microwave that's dangerous)

I don't actually know what speedtrash is, but that beat is awesome.  New goal is to be able to make something like that by the end of Q3.  Also, the microwave idea is great.  You model is surprisingly chatty; mine just says "beep" in various moods.

I need to check in on the weeklymeets one of these weeks!  The few times I've dropped in, it was empty.

Awesome idea for sampling and using as a theme for the week.  Really like that melody that comes in at 1:36 to finish things up, will definitely look at my microwave a little different now

Amazing you went in my brain and created the song that I hear when I microwave leftover stirfry! I dance a little as I wait for it!
Saw a funny thing once where someone would always end their microwave time with 44 seconds. Why? "For Obama"
I'll admit I don't really know what speedtrash is. Is that ok? Genres confuse me in general.
This was fun though. Like Devieus said, I like what you cooked up.

Haha. It was a bit too hot though, I burnt my finger on the cup.

I think Weekly Beats is the perfect format to go down silly random alleys because:
1. the point is the process, not the end result
2. we do have to make one track a week
3. what a safe environment to really make random stuff

This microwave was made for me. I wish there was some more variety to the sentences. For longer meals it will say it's working on making the meal good. And sometimes it will scream at me that there is not enough water and it needs to be added. An helpful microwave.

yes! Not as neat as ipaghost's wave that has sampling feature though.

Yes i'd agree that with the amount of practice we get, it's much easier to do something half decent even on a speedtrash. smile Actually if my count is right I am at 120 consecutive weeks now. smile

It's the pocket version of synthwave. Now if we could plug an M8 into a microwave and control the heating frequencies with that...

I think it's a special feature on Japanese microwaves. I am half surprised it does not sing vocaloid during the heating process. Thank you for listening!

Beep are fine - you got the R2D2 version of the microwave, which leaves a lot to the imagination. A speedtrash is a track quickly cooked, at the limit of rare, in order to fill the quota of track. smile Tahnk you for listening and for your nice comment! Yes, please check out on weeklymeet at the time the tracks go live - we usually have a few people chatting about random stuff. Last time was about the birth of weekly beats, the challenges of making music for the video game industry, and quokkas.

I need to make a track using all my house equipment now. Between the speaking microwave, the high energy vacuum cleaner and the blender, there is a track ready to be born!

Haha it seems many people have their small rituals around microwaves. Dancing around it is good, though they would benefit more from a beat type of sound - maybe a built in sequencer. Or maybe you could make a cool beat by hitting different areas, I'm sure you could make an awesome beat based on that. Speedtrash is a "a track is better than nothing" track, done quickly but without great quality. But hey, that's part of a weekly beats year. smile

Could probably program an arguing to convert midi to something the microwave understands .. and use the m8 to generate midi

cool concept & execution!

Yes! First New Wave, then Synthwave, and now MicroWave!  The bass is popping like popcorn!

Damn that is a pleasing microwave tone.  It's right up there with the "xbox achievement" sound lol.  My microwave beeps to the point where I'm leaping at it to shut it up.  Your model has become sentient!  Also yes I like the idea of sampling more of your housewares smile  This had a fun pace to it and your signature synth bass sound.  Well done!

THAT SAMPLE AND TONE BEFORE THE BEAT DROP WAS STUUUUUPIDLY HYPE!  I had to stop the track and rewind twice.  that is so amazing.

UGH I MISSED AN EPIC WEEKLYMEETS CHAT WHYYYYYYYYY

great job coming up with melodies that complimented the chime!
