Hanami

By Kedbreak136 on March 24, 2024 9:31 am

Well, it is the season of Hanami (which means literally "looking at flowers") and millions of people in Japan will be sitting on blue plastic sheets under the cherry blossom and get drunk until they throw up in their shoes (which they had removed as it's not appropriate to step on the aforementioned plastic blue sheet while wearing shoes).

This track is loosely inspired by that. There are taikos and some koto, but actually also a lot of Indian instruments, both stringed and percussions. And there is synthwave-ish break because why not.

This is a fun jam! Great stereo field usage around the 1:50 mark. Like the bookend approach to composition as well.

Sounds like a great time! Closest I've come is throwing up in a mostly-empty bag of Cool Ranch Doritos after watching a David Bowie movie in an old warehouse. I'd love to try Hanami one of these days.

I can see the scenario right in front of my eyes. Very funny.

Sounds like a good sonic approximation of the festivities.  I can picture myself there.  I was almost expecting the sound of people throwing up, although to be honest, I'm glad you spared us that part.

This develops very well. The switch into the beat-driven synths is dramatic but weirdly fits the tune just right. A great journey!

(I was also nervously anticipating unpleasant noises at the end and am glad there weren't any big_smile)

as soon as he says OOOOHH I lost it hahahhah heart
love the use of vocals and the story arc.
love the beats, the cymbals especially pulled me in!
the melodies are more midi, less groovy but it's ok

beautiful highlight of the season tho! Here in Copenhagen the cherry blossoms are pinpointed to 20 apr when there's an event for it. I guess it was pretty warm yday! so maybe it's really starting. thanks for the reminder!

I love all of the melodic lines through out...  They all play so well together, and the mix is just soo good, all the sounds are placed incredibly well.  Dope track.  (ノ・_-)☆

That flaring gritty synth sound during the intro is extra cool.  Excellent synth arps with your epic drums. Love the drum sound throughout but especially the ending groove.  Well done!

"Because why not" is the perfect reason, for anything, everything? Maybe.
Love these sounds, I had to chair dance a little. The synthwave break works, a good kedbreak thing to do for sure, I expect no les. Hanami sounds interesting. The vomit might ruin the otherwise lovely experience, lol. I guess the plastic is good?

Hanami sounds like a great time, beautiful visuals, spending time with friends, drinking during the day, all the ingredients for a good time.  This track is so good, such a wonderful blend of sounds, the vocal chants and drums in particular.

oh shiiiiiiittttt. I've been playing Tekken lately and this track would be goddamn perfect.
So many nice variations in here

I love this genre, whatever it is - actually, this reminds me of the best of Japan: the beauty of the ancient arts and traditions, and the mind-blowing modern technology.

Daft Punk scoring Ghost of Tsushima?

Okay I'm going to call this genre "CyberSamurai" hope that's cool (i'm sure you've called it that yourself once before)

(the secret noise hum is really good and adds a nice salt to the broth)

It is a great time! Of course people should drink responsibly, but I guess some people just cannot help being too enthusastic! David Bowie movie in an old warehouse? That sounds fantastic!
I do recommend early April for a trip to Japan! Beautiful weather and cherry blossoms! I just went for a walk to celebrate the nice weather.

I actually did not even think of using such a sound sample, I am kind disappointed! Thank yu for the nice coment.

I agree, the mix between traditional instruments and electronic arps should not work and yet... it kinda does. smile

I hope you'll get spring soon! Thank you for the nice comment. The OOOOOH is like traditional Taiko playing, and sometimes you can hear that in Kabuki. smile

Thank you very much! Also, great usage of a Japanese emoji!

After a certain amount of sake, even plastic tastes good, along with some little soy sauce. Unrelated, but try to eat avocado with soy sauce - it tastes exactly like salmon sushi, it's bizarre!

Hanimi is a great time to celebrate the good weather again with friends, and just enjoy nature and good sake. smile

Danju!!! Good to see you around! Have you been playing Tekken 8?

That's very nice! Indeed, I like that about japan a lot as well - how tradition and ridiculously advanced tech seem to coexist and just work together seamlessly. smile When are you coming back to visit Japan?

Yes I have! The story is bonkers

I love the break, even if it's not relevant to anything. It's just cool, like you.
