Gimme an (amen) break

By Kedbreak136 on July 5, 2020 12:36 pm

Sleep deprivation, monsoon stormy weather and a bad cold have not helped with inspiration recently. This is more like an early draft. I think this could turn into a rather decent track after heavy editing, removal of cheesy choirs, some additional leads, slicing of the amen break, etc. But now it's rather disappointing. But hey this is weekly beats, I accept the deadline and submit as is. Hoping inspiration will strike back soon.

By the time we get to the end of weekly beats, I am going to think of you whenever I hear the amen break haha.

Love the sudden change in pace at 01:39, but wish the guitar(?) had a little more time. It sounds like it's howling.

Damn dude, those drums are wild.  Love the energy.  That screech in the breakdown right before it comes back in is cool as hell too.

I’m on the fence about using choir but I think it works here.  Sounds very black metal-ish.  Like something you’d hear in a Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir song.

That guitar howl is a sample - it's typically the way to start a crazy solo but... it does not this time. I agree with your point! smile

I won't take credit for the drums, this is the amen break raw. smile
For choirs, yes I wanted to learn to use choir but never got a real chance. It's so easy to turn it into cheese and i'm using a free VST rather than kontakt, so it makes it harder. Actually I want to learn it so that I can get into the late 90s vibe of cradle of filth or dimmu borgir, it's very fun you referenced the same. smile I'd like to make a cheesy heroic fantasy track with dark choirs.

Ha!  Awesome, well you nailed it then!

Sounds like something I would hear while watching a 90's movie about hacking. Sick melodies
Love the drums around the 2:00 mark

I don't think the choirs are cheesy. In fact, just lean into it harder and it'll sound like an interlude from Aquilus or something. This whole song is kind of rocking a castlevania vibe if there was a dance club in the dungeons.

Amen, brother. Those choirs might be cheesy but I think they fit really well. Banging vibes smile

bombastic soundtrack for a spy-movie or something with lot of tension. The choir fits very good into the scene. very energetic music, though you are not, at the moment.

There's a lot of energy in this track. I was digging it and what it can turn into with polish. For a draft, you have a great piece ready to be refined into bars of gold-pressed latinum. I love the thick, heavy synth in here. Whoo!

I think the choir is perfect for this track.  It gives it an epic feel.  Some awesome riffage in here also.

Sounds pretty fucking awesome!  I guess I like that cheesy choir.  Love the break beats, heavy bass and all the drama. Cool guitar licks in the second half. This would be great for a game or a movie soundtrack. Rock on!

great utilization of them Amen Break.  i can keep this on all day, great job

The Amen break never ceases to amaze me.  I was listening to a heap of amen break stuff only last night.  This track is definitely begging for the knife.  Chop chop chop!  Haha.
Those big tom tones later are cool too.

Haha I feel now that I have work on my cheesy choirs! I'll do some more for this new week. Thank you for listening and the comments! This track needs some cleanup at some point.

Great use of the amen break.  I liked the "cheesy" choir especially towards the middle half.  That dark sorta organ-grinder synth sounds badass too.  Yais!
