Chamber Music at the Labyrinthia Manor

By Kedbreak136 on March 17, 2024 10:10 am

Another week of having no time working on music during the week and cumulating that with a hackathon during the week-end. Fortunately, I was reading a novel by my friend and Weeklybeats artist hent03 (he introduced me to WB but not active in the community this year). It's a fantasy novel in the Neil Gaiman/Terry Pratchett/Monkey Island/Anime genre and has a scene where the hero is getting lost in a maze-like manor, to end up in a place where a demonic quartet is rehearsing a piece. This track was inspired by this atmosphere.

Had i had more time, i could have extended the piece with a scene of flight and labyrithine pianos, with footstep foleys. but had i had less time, I would not have done any track, so maybe I should count myself lucky. Looking forward to focusing more on doing good complete tracks.

Until then, thank you if you listen to this track.

Neat concept and solid execution! That intro sets the mood well, and I love how rich the track gets by the finale.

Well that's some great inspiration with the demonic quartet.  Haha.  Hengtee mentioned he finished it.  Might have to hit him up for a copy.  I like the upright mixed in with the other melodic ideas and as always, some fun samples to enjoy along the way!

Thank you! I did pack it up with all the orchestration libraries and 2 sets of choirs. smile

Yes, it's a fun read, I recommend checking it out. Thank you for the listening!

Properly spooky, nice Halloween vibe.

Nitpicks: the lead could use a bit of velocity changes for enhanced expression (I know harpsichords don't actually have that but who cares about real-world accuracy? big_smile), the bass could use just a bit of reverb to sound like it's in the same space as the rest (oh, now you care about real-world accuracy?! yeah, sorry big_smile).

The demonic quartet is a great image and the music has a decidedly mischievous quality to it right from the beginning.  The laughs are a nice touch as well.

Scary creatures and darkness in here.

These demons know what's up, especially the torturers, the trianglists of demons, very important aspect of an orchestra
- Ebrit

I think it's a harpsichord?  But yais I'm always a fan of when you use similar instrumentation.  The melody just takes on a sinister sound when you do. Love when the beat and full orchestra with choir kicks in after the demonic laughing.  The door creaks gave me some goosebumps too.

Great job with the time constraint, fun track and gets the story across very well, the bass breakdown in the middle and that choir in the last third sounds really good.

I keep imagining the eclectic manor guests kind of doing a fun little dance to this. Or some Thriller action. Spooky but lots of fun, which I appreciate. Fit right in to those authors stories you mentioned. I remember hent03 last time around, I think! Cool he finished novel. What's it called, is it publicaly available?

Digging the sinister loping swing to this beautiful track.  Great sound design and dramaReally kicks out the fantasy vibes at 150.  Danny Elfman would be jealous!

Yeah! Le fouet est encore là!

Bonne ambiance "creepy".

Bien joué.

LOVING the swing feel of this

not trying to be rude, but i kind of like it without the foley in the meat of the track.  the laughing break kind of is way more spooky because there are less FX

i mean i like the hibachi showmanship for sure, but sometimes i just want my noodles smile  (ASK TONE MATRIX ABOUT NOODLES, AM I RIGHT???)

super strong track!
