KaZu - The Mission

By KaZu on February 1, 2026 10:58 pm

Good Evening smile

This track marks the last track of the month of January.

There are a few things I’ve noticed during my first month of Beat of the Week:

- I’m always running out of time.

- Cool 90s rap vocals (like, for example, Mr. Vain by Culture Beat) are really hard to find
(yeah Splice, I’m talking to you 😅).

- You really have to put in the hours to hear any progress in your production skills.

So, here’s my entry for this week, enjoy! wink

Cheers

KaZu

P.S. Always super grateful for any constructive feedback ^_^
Oh, and if you know some cool rap vocal sample packs, please let me know. Thanks smile

The mission? To DANCE! HARD!

Pitch-perfect for that era.

No suggestions on (modern) rap vocal packs, although in general I've felt the hip-hop acapellas on older 90s-00s sample CDs have more individual personality/attitude than what you'd find on slice (iirc time+space had a really good one, but I'd probably need to hunt through a stack of ~100 ancient Computer Music DVDs to find out what it was called).

I know there are some more indie-ish sample producers out there that specialize in raps, but be really careful reading their licenses—quite a few include some pretty dubious terms

I kind of expected that already. big_smile
And yes, I completely agree with you, 90s vocals just have so much soul and character. Unique vocal tones, little to no autotune (yay), and that’s exactly what makes them feel timeless to me.

The tip about older sample CDs is a really good one, I’ll definitely look into whether I can still find some of those online.
Thanks a lot for your advice! smile

High energy, love it.
