Chapel Crisis II

By kaibuster on September 18, 2022 10:06 pm

Sup nerds, jumping into this years weeklybeats the only way I probably could've done it - being persuaded by a wave of high energy hype-beasting by mikey303, wangus, and ilzxc. Shouts out to you guys and euphemism - see yall at the next meet-up!

Name of the track is a time crisis II reference - the chorusing chiptune melodies clashing throughout the track doing their best to embody the powerful, 1-2 punch of secret agents, Keith Martin and Robert Baxter. The two most normal named mcs I can remember off the top my head. Comment below your favorite basic-af named protagonist. I felt less inspired by the actual game music and moreso by actual the name of the game. Except my crisis involves a chapel for some reason?

Anyway I've been learning the art of the m8 sampling this past week, specifically implementing it in capturing pocket operator sound libraries and making them more playable. Monster Logo Studios dropped sample splices of the PO24 and PO12 which inspired me to do the same to my PO20. The track started out as a test in playing the 3 POs percussion simultaneously in an attempt to make some PO trap. Think we got a little bit of that vibe towards the end. In the process of learning synthesizer V so in the meantime im using this https://www.impbox.net/matey/D-HIRO to get those sweet computer singy opera vocals. hence maybe where the chapel comes into play.

(=_=) off to go hit that pogo comm day peace see you next week maybe!
happy to be here, any/all feedback welcome, I know my mixing needs work - thanks for reading this far

Welcome owo

Will you be staying? I really like this, the "vocal" sample especially, tho I'd say boost the bass just a touch

I think the most basic protag name is just John from Halo, they had to give him numbers just to stand out
- Ebrit

o7 yo!

Thanks for listening and comin round to hang - current plans to stick around to the end!
Bass could def use a bump and maybe the lead chip sounds down a peg - If I ever make it public it’ll get another mix for sure.
Highly recommend giving that voca m8 sound I linked above a go-round, the best vocaloid gateway drug I can think of atm.
- loooool  agreed - thank god they call him master chief otherwise the whole franchise you’d just run around hearing marines go “John” every 2 seconds xD

Mis dos favoritos protagonistos son básicos solamente en nombre. Gracias por tus instrumentos de m8tracker.

¡funciona! (English: it works!)

WB hype!

i haven't picked up my POs in a while (same trio as you heh).  some distinctive drums on the 12, some instant fun harmony/melody options with the 20, and some good Something from the 24.

suggestion (and something i'm def gonna do some coming week now that i'm thinking of it): run the PO-12 (and others?) through your favorite fuzz/drive/distortion.  it can saturate/crunch really nicely.

Thanks again for hype beasting me into this mess ha HA! I've been leaning into the POs as my chiptune gateway drug and also as a way to musically procrastinate until my dmg is outta the repair shop. (which is even its own excuse since I know BGB works just as well)

Either the 24 doesnt get enough love or I just have some type of stockholm syndrome toward office sounds. TBH i shamefully love the mouse click sound ill die on that hill. maybe im jsut fascinated by the quirkiness of the 24, I think they all excel more at small embellishments to songs the longer I use them, more on that later -- also thanks for the great reminder to incorporate pedals into my workflow, I have a modded death metal distortion w/ some gain control that could work with some po12 drums.

Yeaaaa, more PO hype. If you're interested, happy to share my PO-having WBs too, but I played them unsequenced through guitar pedals (so +1 to what Wangus said.)

Love the chippage of that Arcade, and I think I've not used Office for anything yet (inspiring me there). I've read everything but I'm not clear -- is this done directly w/ 3 POs or is this recorded / sequenced in M8? DAW?

WB HYYYYYPE, thanks so much for joining!

Hey! The POs are definitely acting as a sort of comfort zone while I ease myself into trying to make more chiptune content - always looking to be inspired though DROP em asap ! As you might’ve seen in my other post I’m a sucker for the Office those clicks are brilliant lol I need to get my pedals on this coast immediately.

All sequenced in the m8, all the PO sounds were sampled into the m8 (sliced up and set to File 01) so C1-etc are each individual sound/hit of each PO. Mixed entirely through my m8 (I don’t own or know how to use a daw yet - one step at a time haha )

Welcome to WB!  This is a hell of a start; I love how cool the melodic ideas are, and the PO sounds are fantastic.

M8 Gang!  This must be the PO20.wav you shared in the M8 discord's #resources channel.  100% with you on mixing 100% on the M8, btw.
