The Last Rum Runner

By judy on August 11, 2024 11:50 pm

Collab w/ my friend Joe. Summer's almost over...

(Didn't continue the intro track from last week, it's coming...)

Woooow this is chill AF. Nice work! big_smile

Oooooh that bass line. Damn this is like mixed to perfection. Excellent work.

Extremely funky. Instantly had me head nodding. Also echoing everything that_ranjit said. Perfect mix.
This is sick. Great work!

wow, love the horns and groovin bass. Faaaavoriting! Love the change up at 1:20 and the snare roll going into it.

Crisp claps! Very funky as someone else said already.

Those horns just make me happy... I want to be the last rum runner's friend - they seem like the right person to know, hahahaha....

How have I not heard any of your beats until now? This is dope! favorited. great groovy upload big_smile

Man when those horns hit…

A perfect fit for the season. A cold drink just feels right with this; rum or otherwise.

Thank you! So little of my music is chill, but I enjoy it and gotta do it more often.

Thanks! I tend to work right up until the deadline, but I cut myself off from writing with an hour left, so I can dedicate that time to mixing. As much as I want to keep adding elements, I'm glad it's paying off in the mix. heart Regarding the cutoff...

Thanks for the favorite!! Yeah, I think the snare roll was the last thing I added before going into mix-mode. Had to transition into the B section somehow. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Thanks everyone. Joe and I spitballed names at the last minute. The song felt summer-y, groovy, but with hints of nostalgia and wistfulness. "The Last Drink of Summer" sounded cool, but figuring out the actual drink to fit the song seemed important. Hey, here's a recipe for a Rum Runner:

The Last Rum Runner

- 1 ounce light rum
- 1 ounce dark or aged rum
- 1 ounce banana liqueur
- 1/2 ounce blackberry liqueur, or blackberry brandy
- 1 ounce pineapple juice
- 1 splash grenadine (falernum is better if you have that)
- Variety of fresh fruit, for garnish

Shake. Strain to a hurricane glass filled with ice, and enjoy!

great stuff!
