Paradoxical

By Jokinen on February 2, 2020 7:30 pm

Thank you to @demonzor for the song name. I wanted to write a song that was just plain rock. Nothing crazy, no special drums or guitar, but something to groove to. This song is missing something and I can't place my finger on it. It feels like it needs something for the "big sound" but it wasn't showing up during this week. Any suggestions would be great! Hope you enjoy!

for real though, nice work on this.  Lots of gnarly guitar parts.  Great transitions too.

IDK man the drums sounded pretty damn good to me.  Cool track overall.  Nice production.

Hell yeah dude, nothing like a good old fashion banger.  Love all the guitar panning stuff going on.

I dont know if you're missing something here exactly.  I know some parts are a little thin instrumentation-wise but its nice to have that contrast for the parts with a lot going on.

Yeah, I agree.  Sounds pretty full for the most part.

I think as creators we rarely see our work as "done" or "finished".  At least so far for me, it seems I get that small inkling of "should I add more to this?" quite often.

Dude totally, I have the biggest problem with that too.  In the month I've been doing weekly beats though its been like forcing me to just accept it and move on which is awesome.

That is the hardest part. The “what if” or what I like to call submitters remorse.

Great fucking guitar work Jim. That solo was killer.

guitar sounds great!  for being "nothing crazy", its still a well put together piece of music.  harmonics sound good in there.  is that programmed bass guitar or did you use the the pitch down trick?

Thanks dude!

Tune down with a bass VST on it

Oh wow this mix is lovely! Guitars and drums on point! heart

the trick is to just tell yourself that you'll come back and add more later. then when you forget forever, it doesn't matter!

awesome guitar sound either way. my favorite part by far was at 2:42, sweet, sweet relief

Without looking, I know the exact part you're referring to. I fully agree!

Great guitar solos, great transitions. idk i think the drums need to come up a bit they seem low but non the less very nice brotha!

Thanks dude! I feel like my drums are always far too loud in the mix but I can see what you mean. Takes away from the fills/buildups.

Just damn!! This brings everything imho! Played super tight and clean, I love when that bass comes through, I feel it in my bones!!

Sounds great overall!  Definitely blown away by the guitar lead in the second half.  Drumming is really cool as well.  You mentioned that you felt something was missing. My only comment on that would be maybe the mix needs some tweaking.  I can't give advice in that area, as I struggle with mixes, but drums were a bit low in the mix.  Maybe compression overall? Others may comment better.  The song and playing itself are rock solid.  Very much enjoyed!

Glad you enjoyed it! I really dug the bass tone as well!

Thanks for the input! I think the drums were low as well. I usually have them too high, so I over-did them this week. Thanks for listening!

It's pretty fucking great all around, though if there's anything missing it'd be something in the upper register, though even that's covered in the end.

Great work, I too feel like the drums could have come up a bit. Vocals too maybe? Excellent composition though and killer guitar tones.

Thanks for the feedback! I think vocals would be great in this song but that has always been my weak spot. I can't catch a break with melodies or words haha.

Great job. Love the bass and guitars! Drum programming is pretty good too (damn I hope is it fake drums cause I'll look very stupid now). However this is what I would like different. Going completely electronic drums or tracking real drums. smile . But damn your guitar skills/composition are nice!

Excellent work. I am pretty jealous.

Haha thank you! Yes, drums are all produced through EZdrummer in FL Studio. I wish I had the capability to track real drums but it would essentially be just a room mic and would sound horrendous. Thank you for the compliment on the guitar work, this was a real joy to make!

Listen to my track I wish I was Meg White, drum was recorded with only a room microphone. It is not "clean" drums, but I am pretty happy with the results.

Oh nice! I'll have to give that a shot this year for sure!
