Dad of the Year

By Jokinen on March 1, 2020 10:12 pm

The title has nothing to do with the song. I couldn't find a title so I asked my 3 year old. Something simple I was messing around with on my acoustic and decided to try it on electric. Sorry if the mix is loud, it's my first time messing with Parametrics EQ 2 on FLstudio.

very Brand New, I love it. great job on the vox, especially good job on the guitar tones at the end!

great job dude, sounds like you put a lot of heart into this one. dat solo tone at the end hit hard, you pulled it perfectly.  (dat bend)

Damn man, awesome work on this.  I agree with @mikememo and @demonzor: sounds like you put a lot of heart into this and I definitely get a Brand New vibe from it.  As always, nice work on the drums too.  Really impressed with the vocals, too.  Great job man

The kick is great. I really like the arrangement of the song, you leave lots of space for your vocals leaving drums off for good part of the song. And yes the last part super loud with agressive guitars is great. Excellent.

Another awesome one man.  Very candid lyrics, something I struggle with.  I love where you went with the outro, that really took the song to a whole different place.

Funny about the title dude, I came about mine last week in a similar way.  I asked my girlfriend from the other room “hey what should I call this?”  She replied back something I couldn’t understand so I was like “what they fuck did you say? Dog and associate?  Okay that works.”

You have a fan in me! smile I especially liked the lyrics, your delivery and framing, I can feel this song.

Thanks dudes. It felt like a ripoff from Brand New but it was fun. The end was much needed after a downer first 3 minutes

Thanks! This was way out of element for me vocal wise. I usually cover them up with music to hide whatever insecurity I have about them but this week I felt less was more. Glad you liked the end too!

Haha, thats perfect about the title. I more or less just kind of dicked around with lyrics as a joke but then with a little reverb it sounded pretty cool. I had whole song done and mp3'd but then thought that a hard ending would be legit. Glad it turned out well!

Thank you Gab! This was a fun one to make! Glad it turned out well.

Shit yeah, epic. Reminds me of old Something For Kate, great work.

I like the emotional tone of this. There's one kick drum that sounds like it's thumping inside my head that I think could be adjusted from a mixing perspective. There's a whole explosion of sound in the last quarter of the song and I don't quite know what I think about it, it's such a juxtaposition.

Awe ya! I’ll take that! Thanks Ryan.

Organized chaos at the end, maybe? Haha. After listening I hear the kick you are talking about. Thanks for the feedback!

Suuuuper BN. Noice job Jim!

Comment!!!.... Good work bud. Getting out of your element is where its at. Good work as always on drum guitar and vocal

It's only March, but still a contender.

Great song, maybe you can find a better title somewhere down the line.
