160BPM Ambient

By jimmac on January 16, 2024 2:24 pm

I really hate myself for getting new gear, knowing I barely know how to operate what I got. But a friend was giving his A4 for half the price, which was an irresistible event (as much as an irresponsible one). Getting new gear for every wb24 track has to stop, effectively immediately.

As you can tell, I know nothing about the box yet, but that doesn't stop me wiggling the knobs. Most of the heavy lifting is the bass on the digitone though. When I just want to tickle my ears, the digitone is probably the best piece of equipment ever.

Next week I'll get back to exploring the Microfreak. I'd like to just sample it and compose a standalone track on the M8 again. Plans. They never work, do they?

Nice score on the A4, I'd find that hard to resist as well. Agree, Digitone is the best. The world's most amped-up ambient, enjoying the listen. smile

This evokes a mood that im definitely into. Great work on the a4.

Wow... it at least _sounds_ like you really know what you are doing. Amazing track.

^it sounds like this one will big_smile

and i love the airy uplifting feel of the synths you coaxed from that thing, nice work! heart

The build up at 2:00 was excellent, pumping ambient! Great work! Looking forward to next week's M8 track ;-)

First week with A4, and the track already has the classic Jimmac blend of thoughtful gravitas + sound design.  I think you've gotten the hang of Elektron sequencing and performance— this was constantly evolving into various interesting motifs and sounds before the current ones got a change to sound stale.

Re sound design: The buzzy thing that comes in at 3:17 gave a good impression of having blown out my speakers. tongue

I don't make anything sounding nearly this good the first time I try out new gear. Sounds amazing!

great workout for a first run with a new piece of gear!

The bass sounds incredible. Enjoyed this track, nicely done!

So many comments! Gosh I can't just leave you all with a thank you.

Thanks, I hope I get some value out of the A4. Feeling a bit of buyer's remorse.

I *think* you mean it as a compliment, but it's probably just a bad mix. It's quite a beefy bass under that fuzzy tail that gets all drowned hmm

Thanks for stopping by.

Maybe you're just not in the right gearosphere, maybe they're just not your thing and need new ones to convince yourself they are, maybe it's something else
What I do know is you make it work

Awesome stuff, I love how the tension just keeps building throughout the tune

Hot damn, sounds great!

I honestly could listen to another 15 mins of build up with whatever philosophy/technique you have towards sound design/composing. Really powerful sounding
