Summer Morning by a Lake

Bb Major / G Minor. 120 BPM. I've always felt that Serial (12-Tone) music needed more repetition and a regular pulse. Main Chord progression is from Schoenberg's "Sommermorgen an einem See (1910)." Outro is from Pierrot Lunaire: "Enthauptung."

this is tight

I love this. It's not really serial if it's got pitch repetition prior to the series ending (in any one iteration of the row/permutation) though, yeah? Really fantastic use of the material in any case. Nice to hear Schoenberg recontextualised like this!

Yea, I dig the serial inspiration too, (but it's not really series anymore if it repeats too much), the use of melody and vocal manipulation is really cool.

Thanks. That was the whole idea; to anchor the series (or part thereof) with traditional tonality -- to make it more like pop music.

Weird harmonies. This tune could be really enhanced with some rhythmic interest. Some fluttery percussion around the sides etc.

Thanks. I'll try it.
