I Should Have Known Better

By Jim Wood on April 16, 2014 5:34 pm

My week 15 entry was deleted because of a perceived copyright violation. This week's is an artist's creative response to just criticism.

Vocals from Author's Playhouse radio broadcast of 8.11.1944, "The Old Gordon Place." Melodies & bass derived from dialogue via Live's "Melody to MIDI." 102 BPM.

No Beatles were harmed or referenced in the creation of this track.

Really settles into a nice groove near the end.  I've yet to experiment with the Melody to Midi feature.  I'm guessing it's not super accurate but it's always fun to exploit weaknesses smile

Thanks. Melody to Midi is actually very accurate; certainly full of pleasant surprises.

Bummer to hear about the other track getting deleted.  Nice use of the radio broadcast.  The vocals sound somehow alien.  I liked how they would sometimes move to the left or right speaker.  True stereo how it should be used.

Thank you kind sir. Old radio broadcasts did sound alien -- I think that was part of their appeal.

I like that! The whole song is playful, and the vocal treatment is really interesting.

What did you steal last week?

Enjoyable track this time, for sure.

Haha. I used a call-in radio broadcast without proper attribution. Reminding me to dot my i's, etc.

Ahh, it was the attribution thing. I see.

intriguing as always! Keep it up!

the melody to midi option is always fun smile i get lost in it sometimes with all those options,  nice job!

Thank you. I'm probably only using about 30% of Ableton's possibilities (if that much).

Interesting, feels like I've dropped into some sinister layer as Mario and I'm trying to find that elusive way out! I like it! smile
