Escape Pod

By Jim Wood on November 11, 2018 4:50 pm

An exercise in Klangfarbenmelodie. Vocal with reverse reverb: Snowflake "Escape Pod" (http://beta.ccmixter.org/files/snowflake/56457). All additional material derived from her vocal via Melodyne's Audio to MIDI conversion (more accurate than Live's). E Minor.

The reversed reverb effect is very nice.  It certainly feels like I could use an escape pod sometimes!

I really like the reverse reverb as well, creates a lot of tension and a nice suspense buildup! Klangfarbenmelodie is a new term for me, I knew about the concept but not the word. Thanks for the trip big_smile

Klangfarbenmelodie (literally "Sound-color melody") was used by Schoenberg in "Summer Morning by a Lake" — a piece definitely worth checking out. To the best of my knowledge, he never used reversed reverb. ::)

Haunting overall, I like what you did with that lovely vocal. Reverse reverb very cool, and the ideas of sound-color melody. Learned two new things today!

Unsettling in a good way, love that reverse reverb!

Thanks! A little of the reverse goes a long way.

The reverse reverb effects on the vocal are awesome! Especially the long twisted "Ahhhhhs". Reminds me of some vocal experimentation Bowie was doing in the later years of his career.  You really got a perfect balance of minimal instrumentation to let the vocals shine and do all the work. Man, you should be a vocal producer! Love this!

I'm just happy to be able to post with the people on WB. smile

really effective space mangling here... feels rather claustrophobic! Perfect soundtrack for an alarming sci-fi movie, lots of corridors and malfunctioning space suits/pods. Very effective stuff...

This is hype.  I'm actually really into the slow development.  This feels like the opening credits to a film.  Very suspenseful and mysterious.

wow this too the source file to such great heights - really amazing...

I'm glad you liked it!

Really cool reverb technique especially with the background synths echoing in the distance.  Part of it reminds me of Aphex Twin's ambient meets Bjork's crooning smile  I forgot how cool ccmixter was.  It's been awhile since I visited their site.   Nice work!

Thank you! ccmixter has been an invaluable resource for vocals.
