Dismal Mumbling

By Jim Wood on May 12, 2018 2:30 pm

I noticed that a number of fellow WBers have been using GarageBand, so I thought I'd reacquaint myself. Quite a number of differences since I last used it (2008). All materials generated in GarageBand, imported into Live for further development. F Major.

Sounds like you had a productive time revisiting GarageBand.  I like the nice glitchy quality of this and the instrumental nature.  It meshes well with your style but also sounds like a bit of a departure at the same time.

Thanks! I was surprised how far from the older "mainstream" Garageband I was able to get.

you are operating far from mainstream in general. The sound here is extraordinary clear an precisely mixed.

Very mysterious and glitchy. There's a lot going on here, all nicely meshed into a clear mix.

That synth intro is great big_smile
And i love those gritty/glitched drums...
It's a kind of chaos that makes me calm... Third time on repeat now wink

great, weird athmosphere... like robots having a board meeting smile

Won't be long now.

Def has those mumbling qualities of a robot board meeting smile  Cool use of the stereo field too!  Nice work!

Whoa... love the sounds and mechanical style of the composition. Really good drill-like sounds. It's the march of the machines! Got an early Devo quality to it.  That low bass connects everything together very well. I don't know what the coded messages are but as I listen at work, I believe I have increased my efficiency by 132%.

nice!

Very cool!

Hahaha.

Dig that half time groove when it first enters.  Definitely a different sound as far as production goes. Less compressed and processed perhaps?

All the heavy production lifting is built into GarageBand. Feels like cheating.

Thank you all for listening!

That FM action is thrillingly in-our-faces.  Relentlessly charming and mechanical!

Probably preferred your usual mixes to be honest!  Just not as balanced or as spatial as usual.  GB is amazing for something that comes with an OS.
