American Vowel Sounds

By Jim Wood on April 4, 2014 12:56 am

40 BPM. 3/4 > 4/4 > 3/4 time. Spoken vocals from a podcast on (what else?) American Vowel Sounds. The main instrumental that sounds like an ensemble of sarangis is a vocal sample from the "Destiny's Door" remix contest run through a Max-for-Live MB Imperial Granulator. Secondary melodies are Simplers loaded with a single sung note by SackJo22 ("Gratitude"): http://ccmixter.org/view/media/pells.

Thanks to TrabanT for the tip on intermittent reverb.

Overly detuned (or slowed) voice always has an uncomfortable feeling to my ears, but the way you played with the voices is quite interesting, on the borders of not being recognized as voices or synths. Nice work!

what an unusual idea for vocals! the background vocal drone noise really works for me with its melodic shifts ... this track is almost educational ;-)

Thank you both. It's mostly a process of serendipity.

Wow.  I can feel the acid coming on.  haha.  So slightly warped with the pitching of the voices.  It's only slight but enough to freak your brain out.  Cool track!

Just don't walk in front of a bus.

Trippy and disorienting.  I always dig warped vocals.

So I did B... looks like you've got the vowels covered here.  I might indeed have to see what can be done with other letters.  smile

You've got… 20 letters to work with, if my count is right. Looking forward to them (or anything else you might produce).

The pitched vocals are some beautiful weirdness. A sections screamed out Ween to me...

Hah! Great sound manipulation. Trippy and excellent!
