Like I Never

By Jetkick on January 5, 2020 11:53 pm

Hey all! Trying out new things and strategies for this year's WeeklyBeats:
- Only releasing short form tracks
- Focusing on emulating and technique, instead of originality (this track, for example, is very stolen from popular works)
- Not trying to make a perfect song, just a complete one
I'll treat this as more of a test of planning and endurance, and hopefully won't give up by next week haha.

If you hear something you don't like in this mix, please let me know. The quality of my work is never consistent, so my aim is to spend little time and still make passable music. Where I go from there, who knows.

Woahh love the simple, but bold chord progression!! heart

ooh that bass hits, great job!!

Very nice! Your plan sounds good, I think WB is great for practicing and experimenting.

Since you asked, I feel like there's some highs missing in the vocal, they feel a bit "isolated", but might just be me ^^

this is a lot of fun !

top notch.  great job

You right you right, this was recorded through an awful clip-on mic. I debated removing it because I still haven't acquired any decent recording equipment (why haven't I done this yet haha). If I were to redo this track, I'd ask someone else to do the vocal. Thanks for the feedback!

Honestly, I did not think this was for me until halfway through the track. I'm glad I waited. The bass and the chords slap.

As far as the production feedback you requested: for my taste, there's too much treble and it's a touch heavy on the compression.

Fair, I started the song with the intro choral chords trying to copy something, and only decided to switch up the progression later. And thanks for the kind words!

In hindsight (hindhearing?) I think I agree. I'm always afraid my track will end up too quiet but this was a bit too much. Thank you for the feedback!

Ah John this is so good!!! Love the growly bass, has a lot of bite to it. Such a shuffle-y bounce-y tune.

Especially nice job with the bass and beat in the second half of the track!  Catchy vocal melody as well.

It's a bomb thrower! great beat breaks!

Dope!!

This got some good grooves going.
