[FLM] 5u2e

By JerwuQu on December 29, 2024 9:19 pm

Finished this year off on the phone!

Again threw the FLM export into a mastering preset just to boost levels.

Lots of frustration and "good enough". Definitely not my best work.

But we finished 2024!

Overall a bit... concerned? over how this year went. I definitely got better at some things in production, but looking back at songs from for example WB2020, I feel like I have lost a bit of creativity and often "went down the safe path" this year.

I sometimes this year felt "ooo, I kinda wanna make a song" but then felt "but in that case I should make it for WeeklyBeats" and I ended up not making the idea at all instead. WB both got me motivated to make music, but got me unmotivated to work on songs I really want to work on because I don't have that much time.

One of the songs I was most happy with this year was when I stepped back from WeeklyBeats and made a silly remix just for fun, something I knew I couldn't upload to WeeklyBeats regardless (no permission from the original author). It got me to realize that maybe there won't be a WB2026 for me. We will see...

For 2025 I want to spend more time on songs and see where that can take me. I just hope I find the motivation to!

I hope everyone else had a great year! Thanks so much to everyone that left comments on my songs.

Hey, I resonated with your track description here. Weekly Beats definitely wants a particular type of submission. No works in progress, no reuploads under the same submission later to fix issues, no covers and samples that weren't cleared, etc. For 2025 I will definitely spend some time doing covers, which isn't something I could spend time on this year, because, like you, I don't have that much time.

That being said, it's definitely a reason to celebrate when you manage to keep the streak alive for an entire year! So congratulations. Having this much practice with music making across the year has got to have some positive consequences in terms of experience and the quality of what you do. I know that is definitely the case for me.

But I am also unsure whether I will be returning with plans to complete all 52 weeks in 2026. I do feel like that cadence is sustainable for me, but there's definitely more stuff in life I want to spend more time on. Good that I have an entire year to ponder this!

Good track to end the year on, too! Short but there's no filler there. I liked it all. Cheers! Hope 2025 treats you well.

The church organ vibes feel appropriate here =P
I also really like the melodic motifs in this, they super make me want to get out of my chair and dance.
I'm happy you kept around for the whole year, but like rplkrt said, I super feel you on the issue of feeling a bit restricted by WB's rules. I'm super looking forward to exploring covers and doing more whacky stuff with random TV and movie samples, too.
Wishing you a musically (and also otherwise) awesome 2025!!!!

Congrats on finishing the year, and finishing it off strong! Love the energy here.
My feelings towards the take away are kind of the opposite side of the coin - I realized how much committing to a tight deadline and not being able to get lost in indefinite tweaking works for me, but I'm also a little afraid what that means for my ability to do high-end production - rather than cranking out quick-and-dirty M8 jams from train rides! Let's see what 2025 will bring. All the best to you!
