Project: Bunway

I’ve been so delighted by/addicted to Ipaghost’s Cottontail Rally tracks, I had to try my own cart racing theme.

I imagine bunnies kind of leisurely taking in the pool-side breeze with the top down. But then at some point they slick back their ears and get down to some neon-warren, gofaster, synthwave racing. How’s that supposed to work in terms of game mechanics? I don't know! I'm just making music here.

This continues my explorations with the MC-707 and ZEN-Core. It's such a flexible engine, if a pain to edit. And while I haven't really dialed in any chiptunes patches yet, it feels made for 80s synth nostalgia.

Good grief this yanked me back hard to the era of Sega Saturn; what a pitch-perfect pastiche of an entire era.  The selection and start sounds were a great touch!

Okay, that's a bummer.

Good use of these sounds, got me inspired to use the whistle in a tune! I find the melody quite epic, sounds like Leisure suite Larry, wearing jousting gear in slow paced racing game.

These are some catchy rhythms! And the sounds are definitely as cute as bunnies, made me feel so good inside, heartwarming, yet dancey too big_smile

My job here is done! What a fantastic and underrated console.

I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill. It's fine. The 707 is way more editable on a patch level than the 101 (which has no editability at all) or the Jupiter X/Juno X (which I'd say lean heavily on the model expansion concept). Still, it does sometimes feel that Roland made ZEN-Core as the *engine* for the FANTOM but merely as a sound source for everything else. It's crazy the sounds you can get out of it, though. I really like it and hope they continue to improve the 707 as a ZEN-Core editor — maybe with model support and/or an ability to create/edit on-board banks of presets?

LOL this was literally my only requirement for myself: “I must use the 727 whistle”. The “Fantasy Zone” soundtrack kind of epitomized the whole feel I was going for, and it uses the whistle A LOT. Probably too much.

Yay! Thanks! Hope you can carry that with you for the week.

Fun demo! Hope Ipaghost gets to hear this one. wink

Haha! Yesss! More bunny racing games! Never enough! Of course it would have whistle! Happy you also included the sfx, now with 16bit voice samples! That intro is so lush too, luxury racing! I'm glad I finally got to hear this! <333

Yeaaaah, ipaghost appreciation all up ins! (I did a remix of ipaghost for week 35!) Really like the bass on this -- ending is straight up 80s goodness! heart
