Interstitial Cavern

I should know better than to try to learn a new piece of gear while Weekly Beats is going on, but sometimes the urge to explore the unknown is overwhelming.

In this case, I had to heed the call of an Elektron Tonverk. As a result, I spent half the week figuring out how to make even simple sounds.

But that‘s okay. It turns out small sounds are all you need for a tiny SNES-style ROMpler tune. Hope it inspires some nostalgia.

ooh very nice sound palette, the plucks are really cool against the steady short bowed and longer lead. Nice tempo to it, I definitely thought back to my SNES times so nice job on that !

That looks like a fun piece of gear. I love the arpeggiated string plucks!

"Just learned plot-critical information from the forest elves and are now discussing privately with your party"-type jam. I'm not sure what the harp is doing harmonically, but it sounds great and totally fits the style. Upright bass too. And though I wish there were less buzz in it, I really like the mystic flute melody.

(I'm also trying to incorporate a bunch of instruments I've only kinda used before in my WB this year, so you're not alone)

Lovely bit of snes cave music, simple and catchy and confident. I'm pretty paranoid about adding new gear during WB, how is Tonverk? Is this a few patterns strung together in the arranger?

Ready to tussle with some bats

Why do we do this to ourselves? You’d think at some point our sense of self-preservation would take over!

My ambitions did not even include song mode. This is just a pattern chain. And the Tonverk is interesting… it has a lot of sharp, unsanded edges still. But this is the first Elektron device I’ve had when it’s “new”. Most have already had years of refinement and firmware updates behind them by the time I pick them up. So maybe this is how it always is?

The result is a device I would not recommend to someone new to Elektron because the less-polished bits will be confusing. But to someone very familiar with Elektron, the lack of assumed features can be frustrating. So I think, unless you have the patience and desire to kind of grow with the device through its awkward teen years, maybe give it another year in the oven?

Super cool and pensive. I love the plucks and the orchestral-sounding chords. Definitely an exploring-the-unexplored-woods soundtrack feel to it.
