Funkzinho Milk Shake

By jegasus on February 18, 2024 5:56 am

Holy crap, I actually finished this one on Saturday evening!!!! I'm amazed, hahahaha...

I went in yet another VERY different direction with this one. I wanted to embrace something super Brazilian, and I thought I might attempt making some Brazilian Funk (sometimes spelled "phonk"). I wasn't able to make the kicks as aggressive and distorted as they typically are supposed to be for the genre, but I think my general intention comes through.

I again left the beat super undercooked here and spent most of my time refining the lyrics. I think I'm getting a little better with timing my vocal delivery, but the quality of the vocals still sound god awful. My shitty conference call headset mic isn't helping, but still, I need to find a way to make these sound better.

While writing and recording this one I was laughing my ass off. I hope you enjoy this goofy ass ride as much as I did writing it.

I think my brothers (who have a sense of humor just as juvenile as mine) will especially appreciate this one. I hope y'all do, too.

Peace!!!

## Production details
The vocals were recorded and mostly ordered in Reaper. I then moved them into the Dirtywave M8 Tracker where I arranged the whole thing.

I've always loved a good "boom" "Clap" vocal drum beat. Love the raps on this one too.

I feel like I've now learned just enough Portuguese to get myself into trouble.  This gringo enjoyed this very much though.

i'm just a pale freckled gringo down in miAmi who always appreciates phonky grooves and on point rhythmic vocal delivery.  p0w!

touch your salsichão kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Hahahaha, yesss! It's a very common gimmick in this kind of music, I have no idea why. Definitely gives it a super "made in my bedroom" feel that I love, hahahaha... Thanks for listening!!

I NEVER teach you ANYTHING that could get you into trouble! Hahahahaha... But now seriously, yes, depending on what you pick up from this song, it will 100% get you in trouble, hahahahahahaha.... And thanks for the kind comment!

Thank you thank you, that's very kind of you! Miami has quite an enormous Brazilian community, so I imagine you come across this type of music pretty often, then!

Pois é velho, tem que ensinar as coisas importantes pros maluco, não é verdade? Hahahahaha... Valeu pelo comentário!!!

For whatever reason I can't get Antônio Carlos Jobim's "Corcovado" out of my head this week. I like to play that. You're introducing me to an entirely new side of Brazillian music big_smile

I hadn't yet listened to "Corcovado". It's so pretty!!! Weirdly, I'm not very familiar with MPB or Bossa Nova, but I like a lot of it when it pops up. And yes, it is indeed quite different from the stuff I've been making, hahahahahaha... Thanks so much for listening smile

great kick/bass sound!

the most portuguese i’ve ever learned from a song

Really dig the vibes, I think the vocals sound good! I actually dig the sharp attack on that kickish sound. don't know how brazilian phonk kicks are supposed to sound, I guess maybe you'd want to layer up with some super deep 808 subbass and do some sidechaining to give it more oomph. But either way, this is great!

Your flow is very good.

I feel you can low cut your vocals (150 hz or so), little bump on mid-hi mid, maybe so it cuts a little more, then you can compress as crazy... (or compress then EQ, there is different mindset to compress before or after EQ). Cutting the low end will give more space for those kicks or other low end instruments on the mix.

Fun track again this week. Like the pitched up vocals at the end, it is fun.

The kick and snare are just me saying "boom" and "tcha" respectively into my cellphone, then sampled into the M8 and with tons of reverb added, hahahaha...

Oooohhhh also adding an 808 kick sounds like a great idea! I didn't think about that when I made this.
Also I think some eq would help, but that stuff is some real dark magicks to my simple smooth brain, hahahahah...
Thanks for the tip and for listening!!

LOOOOL.... This was so much fun to make that I think can see myself trying to get a shitty quality video of it recorded somehow, hahahaha... But still, thank you so much for the listen and incredibly kind comment.
