move if you want to

By jbarket on December 22, 2024 11:20 pm

rather than just approaching workflow issues logically and sitting down to write music, I bought new gear! my ableton move finally showed up Saturday afternoon, and this is my first complete-ish tune on it. downtempo house whatnot.

it's a joy. I still haven't even cracked the manual. it's far from perfect, but it's super fun.

Hahahahaha.... This is so much fun, I'm totally grooving in bed here!
This has some really nice ear candy pieces to it too, I especially like the tinkly bits. Funny how stuff like new gear triggers us to make stuff sometimes right?

Ableton Move for the win. Sounds like you clicked with it immediately. I'm sure you'll find it limiting quick, but that's part of the charm there. To focus on getting a sketch out and then you can refine in Ableton Live and overdrive the production however you like.

This is a fantastic track for an introduction to a new instrument. Cheers!

This is perfect for musical chairs with the sudden stop at the end.

That this track is your shareable work with it... having not cracked the manual at all, is a pretty strong enforcement of the device.  I'm not an Ableton user (which I think might limit the utility of the device for me a bit), but the workflow and specifically the limitations actually seem very up my ally.  Like much has been said about only having 4 tracks, but I'm actually a fan of that ethos... particularly for something that seems purpose built to be a sketch pad of sorts.
