I Have a System

I swear, I do. This isn't just a random mess. I know exactly where everything is, okay?

So, breakbeats... I've made a few break-containing tracks on the M8 before, in the last few weeks, but this one is the first time I actually manually sliced and chopped a loop to create "custom" breakbeats. I can't believe how easy the M8 makes this... I tried this on so many other platforms in the past and always ran into roadblocks of the tools and functions... and my own willingness to put up with excessive tedium, in some cases.

Hope you enjoy this. It's in 11/4 time, which was a lot of fun to try and wrap my head around. Still a lot more wrapping to do, but I'm quite happy with how this one turned out in the end.

This is all M8, some samples from Maschine Expansions, some I made myself. Multitracked into Ableton, some Reverb added to the pads and a little bit of mastering on the output.

Those breaks are hypnotic! Great working on slicing and dicing up cozy track. The 11/4 time signature is pretty wild - I feel like with 4/4 breaks I can usually use the snares to figure out the drum pattern, but yours are so varied that it feels like it just keeps crashing into itself like wave smile

I also really like the plucky MACROSYNTH arps heart

oh wow, that's super cool!

how difficult is it to make non4/4 stuff at M8? (if it's easy, don't answer, I might end up buying it wink )

11/4 here sounds super cool, breaks are amazing, loving it heart

Thanks heart
It's faaairly easy. Patterns on the M8 are 16 steps, which works out as 1 bar in 4/4. So for 11/4 I needed a 44 step sequence, which meant that instead of treating 1 pattern as 1 bar, I worked in groups of 3 patterns, with the 3rd one having a "skip 4 steps" command on its 13th step. A bit more organizational overhead, but it was easy enough!

Thanks big_smile It could have used more work, but... time.

Overall I like this track. Though at times it feels both a bit too empty and too repetitive for my tastes. But I dig the vibe of this track!

oh my word. oh my words! absolutely love this stuff! awesome breaks, never knew what to expect smile something i'm always chasing

Agreed, definitely see what you mean. I might polish this up a bit more for a monthly thing, after I give my ears a bit of a rest from it 🙂

I know right? I've been chasing this forever. Feels like I finally understand how to get there. M8 almost makes it easy!
