Vultures

Until a few hours ago, this was nothing more than a simple riff idea among my many phone recording snippets. I traditionally focus on all the shortcomings of my creations, but this time I'm going to allow myself to feel a bit of pride in what I managed considering the time taken.
The music is last minute, the lyrics are last last minute, but I think the theme is pretty obvious. I was quite disappointed at the 'humanity' shown by the panic hoarders when covid19 was getting underway, the pure selfishness, the refusal to share, the disgusting behaviour toward anyone else trying to get a slice of their hoard. I mean come on, fist fights over toilet paper because one person took 10 packs, and refused to share with someone wanting just 1 pack? It really says a lot about how self-serving some can be, despite their "I'm a nice person" facade, and I feel like this pandemic showed a few people up for being only out for number one when it comes to the crunch, and aren't to be trusted if we find ourselves in a worse situation in the future. End tired rant... I should sleep...
Lyrics:
Something dark is overshadowing the state of this place
It doesn't take much to induce the ugly selfish side of man
Again
Only out for number one, the vultures decimate supplies
Paint a target on their backs for when it really hits the fan
Again
Empty shelves, empty hearts
You took more than your share
You really showed how much you care
Be careful out there
Where were you when the world stopped turning?
Only out for number one
Don't complain when the world starts burning
You created what's to come
So let it come, then run away
This test is nothing like the worst that we could face in future
I would say plenty of you failed, so now's your chance to get it right
For once
Humanity relies on holding others up, not pushing down
I guess you missed that memo, don't expect your own supportive crowd
Congratulations, you have shown
Your true colour, and it's black
Now's the time to watch your back
It's what you do best
Where were you when the world stopped turning?
Only out for number one
Don't complain when the world starts burning
You created what's to come
Here it comes, run away
