My Disguise

By Jai Cafarella on January 16, 2022 3:14 pm

This is another example of a song that didn't quite work out the way I imagined it. The basic idea of this song has been sitting in the bank for a while, so I thought I had a pretty decent idea of how it would turn out, but as usual, I feel like something is missing from the end result. Continuing with my go-to motto for 2020 WB, I will likely revisit this at another time (particularly the 'mostly whipped up last minute' lyrics).

In case it isn't obvious enough, there is a considerable slice of 'Aussie 90s whiney indie pop rock' influence tongue

Banging! Good to hear that riff finally in a song, have heard you play that one a few times lol, but now fleshed out it fits in song format so well, and with so much more to it. Just the right guitar tone for it too!

man this is actually awesome as hell

Damn, I want to produce the hell out of this with you

The hook in the Chorus is so legit

Solid catchy rock tune for sure and good effort banging it all together in a week.

This is solid, rock in its purest form, it's not really missing much. The only thing you could add is extra flavors, like maybe a brass section.

DANG this really hits me hard.  amazing!  favoriting and downloading.  love that stop-start part of the riff.

Funny you should mention that! It was one of a handful of things I tried during the process, but the brass instrument plugins I have are just the default set, and I couldn't get a very natural sound from them, so I scrapped. I was also trying to be wary of the 'too many ideas' trend I often get caught up in. The good thing about too many though, is you can just mute the tracks for the final mix, but they're still there for tinkering later, so I'd like to revisit this and find that little extra something to give it a lift.
