Is Heaven Close Enough?

By Jai Cafarella on January 23, 2022 4:25 pm

This week was such a struggle... All I can say is, at least I submitted something.

I have next to no experience developing euro trance/dance music, but I listened to my fair share via friends as a teenager, so I thought I would try something loosely inspired. A couple of issues though; first of all, I am in such a mind slump lately, the creativity was like bleeding a stone. Second of all, euro edm often caters to people riding some drug and/or drink fuelled wave on a crowded dancefloor, so having a 9:37 Original Mix was (is?) pretty standard. But this thing isn't going to be hitting any DJ playlists, so in the absence of drugs, alcohol, dancers and dancefloors, I attempted to cram in a few euro edm characteristics into a more 'radio friendly' length.

I don't feel much success from how this turned out, but I'm trying to focus on the little producing bits I picked up during it's creation as my take away. It is what it is...

Sober and digging it.

But you got there!!! And thats the important bit, to my ears it fits what you were aiming for, so be proud of that for sure.

Pretty sure you've used the same synth sound to start your song as In Flames - Stay With Me
Your hook is badass. When it kicks back in at 2:30 its sick.

Yeah, I'm trying to keep that in mind, whether I feel great about it or not, I got something done smile  Even if it (accidentally) does exactly what you mentioned a lot of 90s club bangers do; ask questions without answering them tongue

Thank you! smile I am still tempted to stretch it out and add the other ideas in there. One day!

Hehe, a keen ear, yes, it's the first time I tried using a vocoder smile I found it kinda washed the words out though, so I did 3 vocal tracks; a clean (C), a vocoder (R), and a vocoder pitched up and octave (L) to try and get the effect without losing the words.

I was actually referring to the "musical voice" at 2:29 as a vocoder.  but i still want u to think i have a keen ear smile
