Changing Sides (Grin and Bare It)

By Jackmsimpson on April 12, 2026 9:53 pm

Following on from last week's crazy four song idea week, I spent most of this week working on the ideas from last week that didn't quite get finished. This one is more 'typical rock' I suppose, so something a little different from what  have been uploading so far.

Tried a few different things with this one, experimenting with vocal harmony again - still figuring some things out, but it's all part of the process I suppose.

Some beefy Les Paul tones in this one for the guitar work - as a Tele player normally, I find using a Les Paul, or most Gibson style guitars makes me play in this kind of style.

As always, please leave any feedback in the comments - been listening to a bunch of stuff on here this week and I am always amazed at how cool and diverse, and supportive, this community is!

Have a great week! Thanks for listening!

Cool alt rock song with a solid song structure. I really enjoyed the details and complexity of the guitar parts. The chorus is strong too, really good!

As for feedback: the song sounds like it may be a little low for your voice, or at least on the low end of your range. It might be interesting to see how it works when you sing it a couple steps higher.  Also you could maybe do a bit more to differentiate between the different parts of the song with the vocal production, for example adding doubles/harmonies in the chorus, or by adding a delay effect in the bridge. The guitars do most of the heavy lifting in guiding the listener, it would be cool if there were just a couple more hints to give the song a bit more dynamics.

A super solid song, very nice work!

Thanks for the constructive feedback - I have some harmonies in the final chorus/outro,, but they are quite buried now I listen back! I'll experiment with some more processing on the vocals!

Nice gritty guitars here. I love the chugging rhythm guitar and how you've got the lead and rhythm panned opposite each other and bring it centre for the chorus. Production on this one is really fun.
