Evergreen

Here is my take at a holiday song. I tried singing some lyrics, but again like always, it just wastes my time. I keep forgetting how bad my singing is!

Promptly wrote this an hour after finishing this track!

Reminds me of the excellent half experimental / half pure melodic pleasure of Ryuichi Sakamoto "Sweet Revenge" album... So many layers of awesome smile

I really envy your skill using different elements and timbres, and how you balance everything in the mix. Are the backing vocals library-based or actual recordings?

Really gorgeous arrangement. This will be banging my chrismas tree for sure smile

Thanks! The vocals are my own recordings. Sampled chromatic scales of Oohs and Ahhs and layered in kontakt.

Huh... did not see this coming! I'm not celebrating Xmas but this is still beautiful.

It's not as much of an xmas song as it is a seasonal song. So feel free to enjoy it!

Wow. Brilliant! An instant classic, I'll say.

And, re the Ironchef piece: I think I work pretty fast, but I could never produce anything that good in 2 hours. Kudos again!

I wish I had 2 hours this time, but due to the WB deadline, I only had an hour left by the time I got started.
You should still try though; it's a lot of fun, and you don't have to finish in 2 hours if you don't want to. We have new rules so you can take longer if you need. But 2 hours will boost your slicing skills x10!

hearing dem sleigh bells gets me right in da holiday sweater! Sweet arpy synth floating about too! smile

those synths sound good.. what are they? the kontakt thing sounds cool too

phew..This is awesome, maybe next week you could do something bad.. I mean something real sh*tty
so I could just once comment " dont like it, could make 100times better my self" ? smile

But seriously nice sounds, nice mix, nice vocals and nice tape flutter(?) and I usually hate all seasonal songs:)

btw. how many these weekly thing you are attending? I'm struggling with just this one..

Most of the synth stuff is Harmor. The kontakt vocal patch was made for Sugar High and I have used it for several WeeklyBeats since! Probably the only recording of my voice I like.

I think your songs are pretty great! I hate most of my own songs when I'm publishing them every week, so it's pretty subjective I guess.
Glad you didn't hate this one, I tried to make something that would be a reprieve from the typical overly saccharine holiday song. Although pretty much the only thing that makes it seasonal would be the sleigh bells. It really had me wondering what makes a Christmas song Christmasy? Pretty much sleighbells and repeat play. So for the true holiday experience, put this on repeat, pour some eggnog, and boot up your favorite holiday simulator on a  vintage machine!

hooooom.. are you using harmor in flstudio? do you have the problem where it takes forfuckingever to render when you use it?

I didn't notice any slow down rendering this track thank god since I was cutting it close (rendering in the last 10 minutes). But in the past, I have had the rare occasional slow as fudge render which is odd since my desktop is a beast. Unfortunately I don't remember the circumstances of the render. I haven't used Harmor as much this year because I have over used it so much in the past. But there are a couple patches I come back to...
Haven't read the whole thing, but maybe you might find your answer in this thread. I'd also be insterested in seeing your rendering settings, and if you use the native plugin, or vst version (I used one instance of the vst version to let me midi link vsts through the wrapper).
There are some processing preferences in the vst wrapper, plus a performance setting in Harmor for HQ rendering. I would try playing around with that.
If you want, you can send me the project file that has been giving you grief, and I can check it out on my machine.
What are the specs on your box?

my box is a somewhat older i7 with 6gb of ram.. it usually does just fine but whenever i have a project that uses harmor it renders extremely slowly. Ive looked into adjusting the plugin settings before, but really who has time to futz with it too much. harmor sounds cool, but i have plenty of other softsynths i could use hehe.. it just sucks cause i paid good money for harmor
