Re-warmed Prayers

By ineff on March 27, 2022 7:02 pm

The acoustic guitar samples were chopped, mangled, and re-arranged from home taping association's beautiful track from week 7, "while we pray in warmth"  (used with permission—but licensed as -ND, because the original wasn't -SA).

The format's a bit different from what I originally had in mind, but I'm comfortable with what I managed during a busy week on the road.

I learned some M8 tricks wrt sampling, FM design, and squeezing a lot more value out of tables.  I also got familiar with some of the M8's limitations―if I had the time to execute the original idea, it would have been much simpler (in this one case) to use something like REAPER or Live.

100% made and mixed on a Dirtywave M8 Tracker

I like what you've done with the place

Hi - yeah no problem to go and cut up and mess with it smile just let me know how it turns out!

Thanks for letting me make a mess!  Here's how it turned out. tongue

a sweet mess. great reinterpretation. enjoyed the listening.

I really love chopped up guitar samples. That's something I've been wanting to play with on the M8 for a bit too. It gives it such a cool electronic-meets-analog feel. I love the transition at 45s in. Great track! I'll be checking out more of your stuff!

This is fantastic -- the drum work is so chill, but comes through beautifully (kudos kudos kudos on the mixing), the lead is every color of delightful... I think everything home taping association touches sounds great, and your cuts did not destroy HTA's touch at all. Marvelous work, excited to hear more sampling bits over the year! (I agree about the M8 limitations, but trying to keep an open mind for those magic AHA! moments that hardware samplers in particular seem to effortlessly produce...)

ahhh how that beat drops over the glitched guitar: so naturally satisfying, and all the other layers like frosting i didn't even expect as i was so fixated on how the percussion carries this vibe through perfectly

Very cool. I really dig the textures that you're getting with the sampled guitar. Sweet!
