I See Now, ft Bruce Tessmer

By ineff on December 29, 2024 9:47 pm

My father and I have debated on and off for decades as to whether sampling can be legitimately considered "making your own music."  The issue was finally settled this week when I went into full Avalanches-mode and heavily chopped stems from two of his old tracks ("I See" and "Now"), then mashed them into a completely different song, genre, and performance

He loved it. smile

This is that track.  All bass guitar and vocal samples were originally recorded by my dad in the mid-90s and recovered by me as FX-less stems in the late 2000s from old VS-880 backup CDs.  The drums are chopped from four freesound samples (CC0).  Everything else is on-board M8 synths.

I love a good chopped vocal sample. that_ranjit does some fantastic ones, and I see you do, too! The drive after 2:00 moves this to a new territory, which is very cool. Feels celebratory, the chip chirps and lead are both very cute, and the raising tempo is a surprise but fits great.

Glad you joined us for W52. We did it!

Fun tune for the end of the year! Awesome stuff, and congrats on making it through WB 2024. It's been a pleasure getting to hear your stuff this year and I can't wait to see what kinds of sound you'll bring in the new year and beyond!

This sounds SOOOO DAMN GOOOOODDDD!!!

And I agree with rplktr, the tempo changes feel like such a cool surprise!

I feel honored to have shared the WB stage with you. May it happen again in 2026 and, if possible, before that too in the multiple other corners of the musical internet smile

Wishing you all the best in 2025, friend heart

Very interesting track. I like the use of the braids speech oscillators and chip stuff on this.
