An attempt at deconstructing a cheesy techno loop.

Written on m8 (controlling an OP-Z + internals); mixed in Ableton.

Sounds I made w/ M8 things:
* ANIMA (FX sound used as a lead here)
* SIMPLAR (Simple FM Bell sound)

Download M8 Bundle

Note: had an absolutely terrible, no-good time w/ the OP-Z w/ oplab module midi-controlled by M8 on the account of OP-Z frequently crashing and sometimes doing things I did not program (not in a cool way, in a "wtf just happened w/ the filter" kind of way). Due to the risk of not having a backup bass sound at the 11th hour, recorded the OP-Z while restarting the unit in multiple takes and had to assemble things in Ableton a fair amount. The "almost didn't happen" part is not particularly interesting, but here as a word-of-warning (mostly to myself) wanting to run M8 live control on the OP-Z for time-sensitive productions...

OOOO

love the perfectly portioned minimalism and the quite menacing mood here. The chord/arp part in the middle which rises while the lead kinda keeps it down until it lands back to where it was again is genious.

The glitch tinkled my brain in areas I didn't know I had. Nice beat. The riser got me 100%. The synth hits at 1:40 remind me of the best Orbital days. This is a much better track than what I expected at the start.

perfect in every moment

Thanks for listening everyone.

Jeez, high praise that I don't feel this deserves -- thanks (still bummed about the OP-Z being a brat this week).

Thanks! The thing started w/ that Orbitalesque sound, found in Korg Gadget WaveStation thing -- sounded so much like P&P that I originally set out to do something more Orbitalesque, but between technical snafus w/ OP-Z and time pressure ended up embracing the GRR GRR BOOM BOOM. If I read your last statement right, I think we agree that the intro should be redone, way too loopy & uninteresting for the track. Sadly, unlikely to happen anytime soon, since I got 49 more things to make this year...

Thanks for kind words, will work up the nerve to embrace chiptune sometime this year (but since WB is quite relentless will likely focus my experimentation to an element or two until I figure some things out). Random fact you probably don't care about: WAVSYNTH w/ triangle size set to 2 + major chord arp = some unexpected animation of timbres.

Quite a compliment, love Akufen. Thanks!

Trippy!

wow this just gets nastier and nastier. I feel so vulnerable.

this is RIDICULOUS

the kid laugh is perfect.

this just keeps evolving/devolving - you are super talented, so glad to be "in school" with you this year.

very excited about the M8 / OP-Z collab but then was super sad to read your notes!  Hopefully that'll get cleared up?

Likewise about "in school," what an amazing community, such a wealth of inspiration, ideas, and remarkable risk-taking. M8 to OP-Z issue, I suspect, is due to signal loss over the 1/8"-DIN-1/8" converters, but the connection is quite stable with a Kingston THRU-12 box -- which is fine but not as mobile. In any case, will have more stuff with both for sure.

Like the orchestra hit/chord stabby things and all your tracks have great bass/kicks

this edgy rhythm is awesome. You have never lost the control over your toys, supergood stuff.
